Check and replace the fuse located underneath the drivers side steering wheel. Flip the fuse box cover lid over and you will find a diagram that shows what fuse controls which component. Pull the trunk fuse out and replace it with the same number fuse. Also make sure that the battery in your remote is brand new.

Chances are the motor is failing, or possibly the wiring is faulty. The unit will have to be troubleshot to figure out what is going on. First thing to do, is get at the motor, and see if it's getting voltage when the button is engaged, then go from there. If it's getting voltage but not working, it's bad. If it's not getting voltage, check the power to the button switch and check the switch. If the switch is good, the fault may be a grounded or broken feed wire, which sometimes has to be parallel'd to be fixed, since it's difficult to run the wire like the factory did.
A Chilton manual might help you figure this out.
