First you must list exact model number and if possible module part number listed so that one of the techs of this "forum" may even be able to furnish you the parts needed.

Your Buffer boards or the YSUS main are bad. THe YBU-Y Buffer upper controls the top half of display, the YBL-Y Buffer lower controls the bottom half and the YSUS Main controls both those boards. They are located to the Far Left on and opened Set.

Samsung HPR-5052X Plasma issues. Recently started

If the picture os goint to lines right from the midpoint downward then most likely you will have to replace the lower y-buffer board part number BN96-02027A. The board is mounted on the left side of the plasma panel when you take the back off. The upper y-buffer board sounds like it is failing as well and this was a very common issue on the older Samsung plasmas. The part number for it is BN96-02026A. Please take a moment and rate my answer. Thanks...

My plasma, bottom half of the screen is black and goes in and out. Now it's staying black on the bottom half of the screen. What's the cause of this and is it expensive to repair?

Hi, It is your lower Y sus Buffer. Runs about $80
BN96-03362A Y main buffer lower.BN96-03361A Y main buffer upper. Encompasparts.com Also try Shop Jimmy, And Ebay. Sometimes they are lower in price.

My 50'' Samsung Plasma has dead screen after only 2 years

Hi,
welcome to fixya!
without doing voltage checks, my best guess is this:

Plasma hpr5053 or hps5053 models will burn out a buffer board or both, there are two buffers and the Y board.
I usually change all 3 at once, but if on a budget you can try to remove one buffer and see if you get half picture (upper or lower)
this is something only a technician should attempt. the boards cost $200 each (buffers)
$300-$400 (Y board).
if you actually get half a picture the Y and one buffer are good, a bad buffer usually burns out the Y board. and in really bad cases the panel is bad also (not common, but possible)
For part#s , specific help you can post a model# , but again this is a repairmans job not something the average customer can fix.
hope this helps
Eric

Tv screen is black but audio is fine. What does that mean?

Since you still have audio, the main power supply is functional unless your set does not have a separate high voltage power supply for the plasma tube.
Pull the AC plug and allow the set to sit for at least a few hours, overnight is best. Since these are customarily separate supplies (one for the low-medium voltages, another for the high voltage), open the lower rear of the set where the hardware is concentrated. Look for an assembly that seems to be related primarily to the plasma tube; this will be the high voltage supply.
If you do not find a separate board, the high voltage supply that has failed will be combined with the lower voltage sources.
In either case, you need to call Samsung with your model number in hand and tell them you need a replacement power supply for that set. 9 years? They may not have any but may offer to accept the supply for repair or refer you to an independent services company that specializes in repair of subassemblies.
If you have no burn-in (shadows, when the power is off) of the plasma tube's phosphor, it is still worth repairing. Frankly, I'm somewhat amazed that this failure didn't happen 5 years ago.
Power supplies in general do not need any alignment so unplugging cables (and these are normally of different sizes and not interchangeable) and removing the board mechanically is something about anyone can do.
If they offer to sell you a new supply, expect <$200 US; a repair could run to $75-$150 US.
If you can find a new one or a 'pull' from a working set, don't pitch the old one out, it will still be repairable.
'Pulls' can often be had here"

Checking voltage on 42 in philips plasma

You're right. The YSUS board is gone. And most likely the Y SCAN UPPER & Y SCAN LOWER boards also gone. You need to replace these 3 boards. The original boards are from Samsung and you can get them from Samsung. The three boards may cost you US$400 more.

We have samsung 50 inch plasma tv, we have only half a screen

I have a Phillips 50 inch Plasma. About two months out of warranty the top half of the screen would go black. Sometimes when we tapped on the back behind the upper right hand corner the picture would return. I did some research online and found that there is a Main Y sustain board (much like a mother board in a computer) and connected to that board is a upper Y Buffer board and a Lower Y buffer board. According to my research these boards seem to be the source of the problem. I am assuming that the upper buffer controls the top half of my screen and the lower controls the bottom. I removed the back of my TV (about 50 small screws) and searched for these parts by part number. Surprisingly all of the parts in my Phillips are made by Samsung. I found the parts on ebay at shopjimmy.com. I decided to try replacing the upper Y buffer first. I ordered it from shopjimmy for about 100.00. When I received the part I started to remove my upper Y buffer and realized that the new part was slightly different. The part number was the same but the REV. number was slightly different. The new part was missing a small white connector that connects the upper buffer to the lower buffer. I sent it back for an exchange for the right part with no problem. Ok so here is the interesting piece of this little adventure. When I started to remove my upper Y buffer I removed the screws and started to pull on it to loosen it. When I noticed that I had the wrong part I pushed it back into place and put the screws back . My TV has worked perfectly since I did that, with my original part. It has only been about two months, but if you are in the same situation it might be worth a try.
