Question about ASUS Computers & Internet

1 Answer

I recently purchased a custom made PC with an ASUS P5 motherboard which has built in HD audio capability. So far in spite of dowloading the latest drivers for the on board chipset and audio I cannot get it to produce any sound from the audio socket. Windows media player says it cannot operate because the driver is already in use or not installed. When i check the audio driver properties it reports that it is working. HELP !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi,
your audio controller driver is not correct one.
please check the device name from the device manager and click on the following link to download the correct driver
Asus-P5GZ-MX-Realtek-HD-Audio-Driver-6-0-1-5350

Asus-P5KPL-Reatek-HD-Audio-Driver-5-10-0-5477

if these are not the driver you want, let me know

How do I find the folders with the files intact on a secondary internal drive, so I can move and back them up to the C: drive and an external drive?

This is an XP machine, which is no longer supported. I recommend backing up your personal data asap, and plan on moving to a newer machine and OS. After you get the newer machine, you could purchase a USB Hard Drive Adaptor, pull out the old hard drive(s), and copy any important files to the newer machine. Good luck.

What mother board fit the Sony VAIO VGX-XL2

A micro ATX or mATC motherboard will not fit any Sony VAIO VGX-XL* model HTPC. These systems have a non-standard form factor, proprietary motherboard built for Sony by ASUStek (based on their ASUS P5 boards).

Micro ATX or mATX boards do not match the mounting screw pattern, and the case and rear panel would require major modifications (and many internal components removed and not reinstalled) for any replacement motherboard. The Power Supplty is also non-standard 18-pin version of an ITX low profile model power supply.

There are a few upgrades which can be made to a stock XL2 (up to 4GB RAM, better low-profile video/graphics card, DVD optical drive replacement with Blu-ray, a SSD system OS/BOOT drive), but the motherboard, power supply, BIOS and and OEM Pentium D processor cannot be upgraded (because of a locked BIOS microcode). The XL3 model offers a few more opportunities for upgrade (up to 8GB RAM, upgradeable Core2 Duo processor options) but the rest of the restrictions apply (motherboard, power supply not upgradeable).

Upgrade bios for motherboard p5 gd1-fm. How?

http://support.asus.com/download/download.aspx?SLanguage=en-us

This is the website and location. This does not specify the 'fm' designation so I could not guarantee this to be the proper bios. All the instructions are on the site. Follow them carefully or you could end up with a boat anchor!!!

I have a Gateway FMC 901 and I want to update the motherboard to todays standards Is it possible?

To the contrary, the MCE Gateway 901x media center PCs cannot be upgraded via a new motherboard. The board's size was custom built for gateway and it doesn't comply to ATX standards. The best you can do is buy a 3.4ghz Socket 478 Pentium 4 Processor. I have tested the Prescott with 1mb of cache and Hyperthreading technology. I have not tested (nor will I because it is as of 2009, a $350 processor) the 3.4ghz Pentium 4 Extreme Edition with 2mb cache.

Best bet is to max the processor to 3.4ghz for $60 and spend $75 on 2gb or RAM. The system will now run Vista Media Center edition, TV Pack 2008, and can accomodate a HVR 1600 HD capture card. That is as far as this system can go until it goes to the boneyard.

Need audio

Hi,

The SR1820NX is powered by a 2.2GHz Athlon 64 3400+ CPU. The Asus A8N-LA Nagami motherboard features the integrated GeForce video and eight-channel audio.
The Asus A8N-LA Onboard audio or audio card :
  • Built-in Azalia 8 channel audio
  • Realtek ALC883 8-channel High Definition Audio CODEC
So you want the Realtek High Definition Audio Driver R2.11, which has support for ALC883. You can find it here:
http://rapidshare.com/files/173933659/WDM_R211.zip

and the Vista one is here:
http://rapidshare.com/files/173930788/Vista_R211.zip

Hope this helps

  • CM9880/8CH Azalia Audio CODEC onboard (found on ASUS boards) - basic microsoft UAA function driver installed by Vista works but misses soundinput. Install latest ASUS/C-Media software (set compatibility mode to XP for the installer) > reboot > set multiple streams enabled > switch input from microphone to wave and back > reboot
