Question about Jenn-Air 27 in. Electric Single Wall Oven with Multi-Mode Convection

1 Answer

Timer/control display on model W2750W wall oven is not functional. Does the capacitor replacement (C3) fix this, or is a new control module needed? If so, who sells this? The online appliance stores don't seen to list it. Thanks

Jenn-Air JJW8530 LCD panel does not light up

BrianGem posted a great solution back in May of '08, I just completed that fix on my own Jenn air, took me about 30 minutes once I got the correct capacitor.
The display board apparently has a weak spot in the
design, most likely heat related, (probably low priced components from offshore sources)
Fix: Replace heat damaged capacitor labeled C3 on display board, Hard part will be obtaining the 35Volt 68uF capacitor, I'm lucky enough to have a Brother in the electronics design field who found me a couple of high reliability caps designed for hot applications, He does not recommend changing sizes without design review for fear of overloading another component, however several other posts have indicated that a 35V 100mF cap has worked fine for them.

TURN OFF POWER TO OVEN PRIOR TO STARTING ANY REPAIRS.
My control panel was attached to the oven with 4 screws accessed from above the top oven door, the panel slid up about 1/2 " and lifted off, Unplug the ribbon cables and the panel can be removed to a convenient work surface. The display board itself is mounted with 4 screws and connected with a wide flat ribbon cable, the suspect capacitor is surface mounted to the reverse side of the board, two plastic clips need to be released (gently) and the ribbon cable unplugged. Capacitor is likely discolored or leaking, Using as small a soldering iron as you can find De-solder it and replace with new, match polarity marks and don’t use any more solder than needed.
If you run into trouble drop me an e-mail to dltatsjc@aol.com and I’ll try to help.
Good luck.

Kitchenaid double digital convection conversion oven keypad went out. Any ideas on the problem. Electric panel circuit breakers are okay. Sharon C.

I think these use the same controller board as the Jenn-air units, they have a weak capacitor (C3) on the control board (Timer/control Display). Remove the top panel and look for a discolored or leaking capacitor (usually black about 1/2" high 3/8" in accross). Replace the capacitor and the problem goes away, until next time you use the self clean cycle which seems to overheat the control board and ruin the capacitor.

Jennair 30" wall oven display is totally off.

Part # 71003424 runs around $185.00
It's a common issue in Jen-air ovens, the display burns out,the control itself will still work fine but you just can't read it.

If you haven't already, replace the capacitors on the clock module. I had the same problem with a similar oven. See this link for more info:

Oven digital lighted display is dim

You need to replace the C3 capacitor on the control board

http://fixitnow.com/wp/2009/01/28/cheap-fix-for-a-dim-display-on-an-oven-control-panel/

You can replace only the C3 - it is 68uF / 35V and you can go to Radio Shack and get their part # 272-1028 - 100uF/35V one. It takes all but 10 minutes to re-solder the new one in place

Display on my Jenn-Air electric wall oven is very dim

douglas9101,
I had the same problem and found the solution on-line.
Replace the C3 capacitor on the dispaly module. (100 UF, 35 volt, high temperature)
The local Jenn Air dealer wanted $211 for a new display module.
I purchased a Cap from a local electronics supply store for 79cents.
The only problem is that you need to have a soldering pencil/iron, a solder ******/wick and a small amount of solder.

Steps I had to take on my oven:
- Flip the AC breaker supplying the oven to off to be save
- remove 3 screws on top and 4 on the bottom of the display panel
- gently pull out the display panel and unplug the 2 cables to the display
- unclip the ribbon cable to the display module
- unclip the module itself by pushing on the 2 black tabs
- locate C3
- unsolder C3 and replace with new Cap- keeping the polarity strip the same as theh old Cap
- reasemble in reverse order.

It took me all of 20 minutes. It may sound difficult but is very easy if you have the tools
Good Luck
K

LED Display fading

As noted in solutions to other Jenn Air ovens, this is often solved by replacing the capacitor labeled C3 on the circuit board that contains the display. Oven heat apparently causes it to fail over time. This is a solder connection to the circuit board. Not hard if you have any experience with this kind of soldering it is straightforward.

Seven phillips sheet metal screws to remove panel assembly, plus two electrical connectors. One ribbon connector from touch panel to board, then four 1/4 hex sheetmetal screws to remove circuit board from touch panel and metal frame. Then soldering iron.

It did work on a 40300 dual unit, which is same as this model except for cosmetics.

Capacitor is 35 volt 68 microfarad. Radio shack has 100 microfarad, which one report says works. Radio shack doesn't have a 68, but they do have 22 and 47 which mounted in parallel give 69, which is within tolerance. That's what I used. The capacitors cost $1.29, less than 1% of the cost of a new circuit board.
