  • j geertsen Dec 30, 2010

I have tried all this stuff, I am exteremly lacking tech skills. I entered info into address bar - not sure why but nothing turns up any way. I guess all your instructions are beyond me. I am sorry and very frustrated. I am connected correctly. I unplug modem reconnect and no connection nor any thing else that asks anyquestions about router IP address etc. Where would I type in admin, password etxc - don't get this.

Hi!

Reset Modem by unplugging it for atleast 30 seconds. Set router setting for obtaining IP Address to Dynamic or DHCP then try reconnecting.

Please update for me for additional concern.

Have you tried resetting the modem already? We need to re-establish the connection of your Modem to Time Warner Server and detect your new router.

Try connecting the computer directly to router-Netgear to access router page and check Basic settings.

By then you can reconfigure the wireless settings and connect wirelessly.

Feel free to update me. Cheers!

    Hi!

    1st-

    1. Open an Internet Explorer browser and type the router IP address which would be either http://192.168.0.1 or http://192.168.1.1 in the address bar and press Enter.

      • The Login window will prompt for the router configuration username and password.

      • The default username is "admin" and the default password is "password"

You can also follow the online instruction. Please click HERE.

Time Warner is using Dynamic configuration so settings should be set to Obtain IP Address Automatically

    Hi!

You need to have your computer directly connected to the Netgear router to access the router page to check the settings.

For asssitance over the phone please contact this number.

    Hi!

Well I can see that you have a Motorola SB5101. First you need to connect the Netgear to this modem directly, and then connect your computer as well on one of the 4 ports on your Netgear box.

Turn of both devices after and turn on the modem back first, after a couple of minutes turn on the Netgear router so we can synchronize the Netgear router to the modem. You should be able to connect to the Internet with this type of connection.

Then you access the router page by

Open an Internet Explorer browser and type the router IP address which would be eitherhttp://192.168.0.1 orhttp://192.168.1.1 in the address bar and press Enter.
The Login window will prompt for the router configuration username and password. The default username is "admin" and the default password is "password"

Time Warner is using Dynamic configuration so settings should be set to Obtain IP Address Automatically

*If you can't access Internet after all the steps above call 800-627-2288. This is Time Warners number so they can check if router is set to DHCP and if the modem is detecting your Netgear router.

Thank you for your patience regarding this. Cheers!

If you just plug it in - it should work. Are you using DSL or Cable - in either case just plug router WAN PORT into modem and then plug computer into and LAN PORTs on the router. Now configuring the unit is a different question

Hi I would like o hook up a netgear prosafe 8port gigabit switch to my pc and run an ethernet cable which is allready hardwired to my sony bluray player so I can enjoy netflix

It would be much easier to use a simpler device, namely any Netgear 10/100 wireless router.

Cable-modem (or DSL-modem) --> Router's WAN port

Router's LAN port #1 --> your desktop computer
Router's LAN port #2 --> your Sony player
Router's wireless adapter --> your iPod Touch's WiFi adapter

Since the cable-modem (or DSL-modem) is only delivering 5 to 25 Mbits/second to your router,
unless you are paying a _lot_ of money per month to your ISP,
there's no need to buy/use expensive "gigabit" equipment.

Why is it that when i connect to prosafe vpn i am unable to connent to web pages

It probably has something to do with the fact that this particular model is not meant for personal use, but in big corporations. It does not support UPnP which allows possibly harmful programs that are accessing your router to auto configure the security settings on your router. If you got any more problems with your router, maybe you should check out this cool users manual. It really helped me a lot, maybe it will help you, too :)

Where do i find UPnP on the the fvs318 netgear prosafe VPN firewall router, i cant find it on the main configuration menu

The netgear prosafe VPN router is a high-end component ment for business and corporate use and does not support UPnP

UPnP (Universal Plug and Play) allows programs accessing your router (limewire, utorrent, etc...) to auto configure the security settings on your router which would be harmful to a business/corp. network.

DMZ HOST IN FVS 124-G

The Netgear FVS124-G is a superb combo VPN firewall DSL/Cable small business router. Loads of features and Dual Wan to boot. I highly recommend it's use in small businesses But... Keeping the necessary firewall, you are missing another component in a properly segmented network, a VLAN switch. It is highly customizable and gives you the configurability and speed you are asking for. Look at it's features here: ftp://downloads.netgear.com/files/FSxxxT_GSxxxT_smartswitch_UserManual.pdf The normal network security plan is: Internet -->Firewall-->Router (or Firewall/Router)-->VLan Switch-->Individual computers or VLan subnets. Using these two components together makes a more configurable and MUCH easier to setup network than using, say, one Sonicwall, or one CISCO PIX-501-BUN-K9 (which doesn't do VLan and you have to know Pix commands) You get FREE pre-sales and FREE post-sales support from Netgear, so call them on what makes sense for your situation.
