Samsung RS2555SL Water Filter Cartridge Holder has a leak...

The white plastic cartridge holder, located in the upper right corner of the refrig has sprung a leak. I noted there are two screws that hold the unit inside of the refrig and two screw outside and on the back of the refrig that secure the unit. There are two water lines, one white and the other dark, that feed the water into and out of the filter.

Is the process of replacing the unit a complex or simple? To speed up the process can I bypass the filter by cutting the two lines on the back of the refrig and itstall an after market filter? The latter would be much easier and most likely a lesser expensive alternative.

    I fount the part a Sears for about $42.00. After checking their schematic I determined the cartridge assembly was just that and nothing more.



    I opted for an external cartridge I purchased at Home Depot for about $17.00.



    I cut the two lines leading to the old filter and attached the new filter. All of the parts were included in the box. It took me about five minutes to perform the installation.



    The nice thing about the new filter is its quick release tab for easy replacement and the fact the filter lasts longer and is a lot cheaper than the Samsung filter.

    I want to do the same, bypass the filter inside the refrig since the cost of that filter is $40 versus inline behind the fridge is only $15.
    This is a new ripoff the refrigerator manufacturers have come up with..

I personally have bypassed my filter and installed a higher quality inline filter in the back of the refrigerator my self. The first reason being is that I for one had the inline filter on my older one and the second is that i have several still ready for replacing. and third they are less exspensive for me to but. GOOD lUCK

the leading thing causing that is a dusty condenser coil. to clean that remove the grill above the refrig, and the white painted plate behind that and vacuum the coil on right side ,typically the grill is held on by springs and a either 1 screw in the center or 2 screws on the corners of the rim above the door,remove grill by opening refrig. door and remove screw tilt grill down and disattact springs

I have a side by side refrigerator and I need to test the defrost cycle. How do I put the refrigerator in defrost mode?


If it is an older model with the 2 adjustable settings at the top which slide then to check the defrost circuit , unplug the refrig and inside the refrig section at the top about 2" in from each side in the back , there are "D" slots to put a finger in , and pull downward and foreward , to remove the control panel cover . Once removed , there is a 1/4" screw on each side holding the adjustment indicator panel on , 1 phillips screw behind both light bulbs , and 1 screw holding the complete panel to the rear wall . After removing these 5 screws , at the top right corner , with about 6-8 wires going to it , is the adaptive defrost board . Sometimes you can see the electronic board and on newer refrig's , a white box will be seen. Inside this box , is the adaptive defrost control . Disconnect the plug going to the board and on the right side of the PLUG , the far right wire is yellow , then another color , then white . Useing a small insulated wire with both ends stripped , insert one end into the yellow wire hole and the other into the white wire hole . This will bypass the adaptive board and send power directly thru the defrost bimetal ( thermostat ) AND heater to check if they are good .Plug the refrig back in . Now , wait about 3-5 min and look for a red glow at the bottom of the inside freezer panel , which will be the defrost heater or listen for sizzling which will be the frost melting and dripping onto the heater .If NO red glow , watch for a spark while removing the jumper wire you installed , from the plug . If a spark IS seen , then the heater was on and the heater AND bimetal are good . If you see the red glow , hear the sizzling , or see the spark , then the adaptive defrost board should be replaced . If no glow , sizzling or spark , then unplug the refrig and reinstall the refrig control section .

Have a Frigidaire GLHS68EE. The freezer side appears to be working normal but the frig side doesn't get cooler than 53 degrees. Any suggestions?

It probably is not blowing cold air into the refrig side , so to check the defrost circuit , unplug the refrig and inside the refrig section at the top about 2" in from each side in the back , there are "D" slots to put a finger in , and pull downward and foreward , to remove the control panel cover . The cooling coils are icing up. Have checked the defrost element with ohm meter it seems to be good. thermostat looks to be intact and sealed. Does this mean that I have a defrost control problem?

Inside lights not working on frig side, working on freezer side, changed all 3 bulubs


You have a bad control board , located behind the refrig , mounted to the bottom left corner , inside the white plastic box . Also , the temp adjustment light , should be out . This board , is held onto the refrig , by those 2 , 1/4 " screws . It is easily replaceable , and costs about $80.00 .

Cant locate defrost timer


You have an adaptive ( electronic ) defrost timer . This is located at the top of the refrig section , in the far back right corner . Those 2 , 1/4 " screws , are the mounting screws for it .
On both sides of the upper control panel , are slots , and " d " shaped holes to put your fingers in . Insert a finger on each side , and pull slightly downward and foreward , to remove the panel .
Using a 1/4 " tool , remove the back screw , and the 2 screws holding the temp setting plate .
Use a phillips screwdriver , to remove the 2 screws , located behind the light bulbs .
You should be able to access the adaptive timer now . Pt # 61005988 .
