Question about NAD L73 DVD Player

I have humming problem with my NAD L73. It started

I have humming problem with my NAD L73. It started suddenly some months ago. The unit is 3 years now. Very strong humming when the unit is powered up cold and then gradually fades, but it never disappears completely. The humming level can vary from time to time without any changes in the setup or the system. I have tried eliminating all external sources of humming but my conclusion is that it is something inside the L73 that is not allright.

Hi.

If humming disappears after the unit "warms up", then it is usually a defective component in the internal circuits. Components are used to stabilize the signal in different parts of the circuit, capacitors store charge, ICs and transistors amplify or stabilize voltage. Some of them have an active role only when circuit is 'cold' (capacitors are still charging up). A psu that is starting to fail because of a defective capacitor, a faulty preamp, or a defective amp final IC may result in a humming noise that disappears when the unit 'warms up'. If the problem is a defective component you usually get the fault worsening in time, until the unit is not starting anymore.

Before sending the unit for repair, check home network voltage and grounding, or test the NAD L73 somewhere else.
Connect the NAD L73 directly to the wall socket. Power draw from other appliances connected to a multi-socket extension, or grounding problems can result in humming.
Test using different cables and devices. Use a minimal set of connected cables when testing.
Check speakers or audio wiring and check the speakers.
If all this does not fix the problem, then the L73 must be repaired. In that case contact NAD Electronics.

Regards.

Ginko

normally a Hum is caused by a bad ground,, if it only happens when the unit warms up it could be the output drives are failing. , check the grounds to the unit first, then the wires to the speakers themselves, if they all check out ok,, you need to take it to a repair shop dealing with receivers

Hi there,
I'm also a Nad fan. I find this pretty odd that you should loose two in such a short space of time. The cutting out is due to the "protection circuit". I would be inclined to get your speakers checked out as if they are faulty or not "matched" to the amp, it will trigger the amp to "protect itself" and shut off.

Intermittent dead ignition to dead ignition

This problem is usually caused by a failing neutral safety switch. Try moving the shifter when it is dead. Will it start in neutral? Move the shifter while trying to start (foot on brake!)

NAD S300 Amplifer humming

You have either got a bad earth connection, or possibily there's a capacitor failed.
If you can't find a dodgy conection, I would replace the large Electrolytic Capacitors in the power section, they are used to take out 50hz hum in the mains electric, when they go you get that hum coming into your system.
