Get into the main menu and look for storage ..In there choose the memory card ..This will force it to offer to format the card ..if not ..in the same feature choose further options under the memory card and format it ..
You can also insert it in a card reader of a computer ..select the removable drive in the my computer folder ...and right click on it ..and select format ...after that choose FAT32 and proceed..
insert the card in the camera again and if it asks to format it ..do it again in the camera ...if not ..just look for storage and choose the memory card as the main storage device ..

My finepix s1800 is showing read error in screen

Welcome to Fixya.

Ther three reasons why do you received an "READ ERROR" message:

1. The file is corrupt ot was not created with the camera.
- the file can not be played back
2. The memory card contacts require cleaning
- Clean the contacts with soft and dry cloth. If the message is repeated, format the memory card. If the message persist, replace the memory card.
3. Camera malfunction
- Contact a FUJIFILM dealer

Please let me know if you have any questions and if this solution was helpful.

Thank you for using FixYa.

Camera wont read memory card error message say: memory card error, please check the card. I dont think its the card becaouse other devices can read it

There are several possible causes for "memory card locked", "memory card error", or "no memory card". Some include trying to use of a 4GB SDHC card with an older camera made before SDHC format came out. Others include problems with the tiny slide switch on the side of the card, or the electrical contact switch internal to the camera. The problem may also arise from simple formatting problems if the card has never been formatted in the camera (note that this will also erase the card). Troubleshooting tips for this problem may be found at this link.

I just got back from my first cruise and took so many pictures. I don't have a USB so I went to go place the memory card into my computer but it won't read the card. So when I put the memory card back into...

i know its not ideal but why dont you borrow a friends camera and usb lead, put your card into their camera and upload them onto your computer via their camera, at least then you can save your special pictures and rectify the problem later

First check the memory card to see if the lock tab is in the UNLOCK position. On the top left of the memory card is a slide the moves up and down. The slide should be in the up position for it to be unlocked. A locked memory card could cause the camera to read a CARD PROTECT error message.
If you still receive an error message, verify that you are inserting the card correctly so that the spring locks in as you fully insert it. When performed correctly an Icon will appear in the lower right hand corner of the LCD screen. Also try inserting the card while the camera is on.
The memory card may also need to be formatted through the camera’s settings-- Note: Formatting will delete all files, so be sure to transfer any important files to your computer before doing so
To Format: Insert the memory card into the camera and press the mode button to get to the mode screen. Enter into Tools/SETTINGS and find FORMAT. Once you select format you will receive a YES or NO option. Select YES and you will see a FORMATTING message. Once the formatting is complete, see if the camera reads the card and functions properly

"Memory card cannot be read"

My camera used to do the same thing--once I got the pictures off my card, I left it in the card reader, right clicked on removable media (my computer + removable storage) chose to "format" and formatted it on my computer. It seems to have fixed the problem, and my camera now reads it fine. I tried to format it on the camera before, but it didnt work.
