After a paper jam on MP830, error code 6502 appeared. Switching off and on inneffective - and error appears before any opportunity to clean heads. Disconnecting and reconnecting power ineffective. Canon site won't reveal any error codes, but suggests leaving turned off for 10 minutes. Did that and - Hey Presto! .....That didn't fix it either! Anyone know of a table of error codes for this thing?

Canon mp830 error code 6502

Hi Dee,
The error code 6502 indicates an ink tank position sensor error. There's no communication between the printer and the newly installed cartridges. To clear this, you have to remove the cartridges, check the plastic tape usually around them when new and make sure you COMPLETELY remove this tape.Ensure nothing is covering the chip or LED on the rear of the print cartridge. Also gently wipe out any appearing smudges.

Hope this helps.Thanks!

Pls do the following :-

Error code 6502 The Error code 6502 can occur in the printer as a result of ink tubes caught under housing and jammed the print head against the right hand side of the printer. The printer is unable to do anything now and it will give an alarm light only. To fix this issue, you need to unplug the printer and then plug it back. You need to press and hold the power button of the printer and click the Stop button twice. You can then release the Power button and press Stop button for four times. Installing new ink, getting code 6502, can u please help

Sometimes the Canon printers which use PG-5BK/CL-8 colour cartridges with chips will give error mesaages like 6502 or other types of error meaasge to do with the cartridges, which has the orange light flashing and the printer will not work. Follow this procedure which quite often resets the printer and allows it to resume printing.

When error is indicated, turn power switch off so green light is extinguished.

First hold down resume button and then hold down power button so both are held down at same time

When green light comes on, continue holding down power button and let resume button go, then press resume button twice. Then let power button go.

Then press resume button four times, power button should be releasedbefore doing this.

Wait until printer settles down, if power is off, turn on. If power will not come on, remove power cord from back of printer, then wait 15 seconds before plugging back in again and turn power on. This normally solves the error problem - if not go through same procedure again.

Incidentally, you may find that if the chips had previously been disabled, the low ink warnings are showing againand they will have to be disabled once more. This would indicate that the above procedure clears the firmware memory of the disabling of the chips, this may be usefull if you need some warranty work done on you printer after the chips had been disabled. Canon does warn that disabling the chips may result in the printer's warranty being voided

Changed ink cartridge and now have error 6502 - have no clue what that means, but it won't print - yellow and green light alternate flashing

Error Code 6502 appears generally after changing a cartridge.

Solution:
  1. Unplug the printer.
  2. Remove the faulty Cartridge
  3. Plug in the printer and press and hold power button
  4. Keep it held down. Press Resume twice, and this should reset the fault.

If I could be of further assistance, let me know. If this helps or solves the issue, please rate it and give a testimonial for my response

Thanks, Joe

I change my ink cartrges and is sending a 6502 error!!! i am trying to reset the printer but it has been unsuccesfull... please help!!

Try holding the stop/reset button down for 5 to 10 seconds. If that still does not work, turn the printer off and on again...repeating the reset option for a few seconds. If it does not clear then you probably have a print cartridge problem.
