Question about Western Digital Caviar SE16 WD5000AAKB - 500GB - 7200rpm - - IDE/EIDE - Internal 500 GB Hard Drive

1 Answer

Hi, iv accidentally knocked my new WD elements se 500gb. dropped my cell phone onto it from an approximate height of 20 cms or so. after i plug it in now the LED blinks for a lil while, the drive spins as well then stops and LED stays lit. the computer reckon es it and make that noise. it comes up with the "safely remove hardware" but does not show in the my computer folder anymore. iv tried everything but im afraid it could be a circuitry problem. can anyone help?? how hard would it be able to fix? or is it valid for a swap? its still under warrantee... k that was random. its ben plugged in for about 10 mins. and it just popped up with the autoplay thing... idk. PLEASE can anyone help???

hey guys, good news, i revisited a site that was all about running cmd, so i tried it and it fixed my problem, so it wasnt a circuitry problem after all, i think it just didnt shut down properly after the phone hit it, all i had to do was run cmd type chckdsk g: (because the dissk eventually showed up as local disk g:) then /f, solved my problem and i didnt loose any of my data :D

Well although it still warranty they will going to check your hard disk drive before changing it. If they found out that you are the responsible for making the hard drive defective they will void the warranty.Mostly if you heard a sound from the hard disk drive it probably the mechanical or the head and write head are defective. Two solution are: 1. Insist that hard disk drive are automatically having sound or troubled but you always shutdown you computer properly or 2. go to the nearest service center of Western Digital and request for a repair, they will going to repair but they will going to charge for the repairing of your hard disk drive. Have a nice day!

Hard drives are very susceptible to fall damage as they have moving parts. See if it's a power problem and look inside for any internal damage. If the data inside is really important then you should bring it to a data recovery center to obtain your data. Otherwise, hand it in for warranty since it's new!

When i plug the wd elements1t into my wifes xp computer the computer will not boot up

The easiest way is to unplug/plug the disk everytime you are booting the pc.

If its too much for you you can also try going in BIOS:

Integrated Peripherals >> disable "USB Legacy Support".

POwer supply failure

Hi John,

Had the same problem with a WD Elements 320 GB drive, and found a WD customer service number. They are sending me a FREE replacement. I have put the details on a message somewhere on this site, but can't direct you to it.

The number from Australia is : 1800 429 861 ( routed to Singapore )

Email Address : Western Digital Customer Service . CustomerService@wdc.com

Send them details of your mailing address, drive model and serial number, and a description of your power supply. ( my power supply had a model number moulded on the back )

Hope this helps
