Question about Cameras

1 Answer

I have an older (1996) Sony Handycam CCD-TRV211. I am using the player to transfer my old 8mm tapes to my computer. The player will play for about 4 seconds then stop. I get a blinking triangle with a line underneath it, only the eject button works when this happens. Many times the tape will not eject, it is trying but stops. Sometimes I have to physically assist the camera to eject the tape by precisely timing and placing hand pressure on the camera during the eject process. When I finally get the tape out, I reluctantly try again .. only to have the same thing happen. After failing to eject 2 times, the blinking error message no longer appears then I have to remove the power source or battery from the camera (whichever I am using at the time) and the reinstall it to try playing again. It will play for 4 seconds then stop... and the routine continues. Sometime the tape will play without a problem for several minutes, then suddenly... stop and then error starts all over. I still have about 12 tapes to transfer but at this rate my hair will fall out first. I started using a can of dust cleaner and that seemed to work for a while yesterday... but it may just have been a coincidence. Today, the compressed dust cleaner doesnt help at all. Sometimes, I can get the camera to fast forward for a while, but it always ends up stopping. I'm ready to buy a used 8mm camera just to finish my project but was hoping you might be able to help. Thanks, Mike

How are you powering the camcorder ? Many will not transfer videos if battery powered, since the battery may fail. Try again with the camcorder mains powered, see if that helps. Have you cleaned the heads with a cotton bud and a little IPA ?

SOURCE: Sony Handycam CCD-TRV37 8mm Analog... 2 Problems, maybe more unknown at this time:

This does require disassembly to remedy the problem. There are various possible fixes. The most prevelant I have seen is cold solder connections of the board connector for the fpc cable from the top operation switch block ass'y. All you need is someone who can handle this task, like a professional. The controls that you are experiencing problems with are all linked with one cable and connector. One bad solder joint can cause serveral operation faults. Good Luck, magic seadog

Sony handycam video cassette

To the best of my knowledge 8mm VTR's have not been available for some time now. On the other hand there are plenty of Hi8 cameras and players available after market. eBay is a great source. Keep in mind that Hi8 cameras and decks will also play standard 8mm video tapes.
There are also many video tape transfer services that will transfer your 8mm tapes to DVD or other formats of your choice. Just Google "videotape transfer service"

I have a Sony Video8 Handycam CCD TRV211.

Hi,
If you are asking about CCD-TRV211 camcorder?
CCD-TRV211 is analog Video-8 camcorder so its movie data is not digital and can not be connected directly with computer via USB port.
Best and easiest was is to connect camera with DVD Recorder and burn DVD, this will convert analog movie file into digital data and you can copy it to hard disk of computer.

Transfering 8mm video tapes to dvds

Hi there. You need to transfer your videos to your computer and then burn them to DVD using a program like Record Now, or Nero. You should be able to get this from Best Buy, or you can get it online from their websites. If you have any other questions, let me know with a comment. Thanks for coming to FixYa.

Viewing SONY 8mm Tapes -- Please help

The older tapes were shot on a 8mm camcorder and the camcorder you have wil not play them becasue it doesn't have backwards compatability with the older format. The tapes you recorded are on a digital 8 camcorderr and it is different encoding than the one you recorded the other 60 tapes with. You will need to find either a dcr-trv 350 trv 530 trv 730 ect as these have the ability to play all the tapes.
Or find an older 8mm camcorder to play your tapes with.
Hope this helps
Cheers
