Since this is a DLP machine, nothing magnetic will effect it. Also, dust or dirt in the lamp area will show up throughout the entire screen. What you have here is a logic problem or a connection problem. A few questions:

1) Is this a shadow of the picture or a black column?

2) Were there any other symptoms prior to the appearance of this?

3) Does this happen immediately or only after the set has been on for a while?

At this point, if the set is under warranty, have it serviced. If not, then with the ansers to the above, we should be able to provide some instructions to help in resolving this problem.

If you are able to open the lamp cover and remove the lamp to see if there is a dust build up on or around it. If that looks clean there could be a hardware failure getting to the optical assembly and that's being displayed on your TV.
These type of failures are more difficult to troubleshoot even for an experience repair tech.
If you have previous experience with tools such as soldering iron, multimeter and oscilloscope, this could be something you could do.
Let me know if you need further assistance.

Shadow top to bottom of screen on left side about 2" wide...

This can be the sync wheel assy, failure in the drive circuit for the display chip, or an illumination fault. You will have to give the set out for service.

Samsung dlp tv

Yes, it could. There is a light pipe in the light path that could now be broken from the bumping or it could just be out of line from the bumping. Another problem could be the mirrors in the projection path could just need adjusted by the 3 screws that are beside the mirrors. This may also happen when bumped.

Broken Mirror

you need to see if the lens where the light comes out is scratched..
if it is then the picture will never be right until you replace it..as for a cheap replacement mirror the picture might be watchable if it is a good quality mirror
