Question about Alesis DM7 USB Electronic Drum Kit

1 Answer

A new DM7 drum set line out has very low output. It is connected with drum combo Stagg EDA40 and if combo drum inputs are used there is practically nothing to hear . With combo maximum volume there is noise from amplifier. DM7 master volume must be on max. Headphones at headphones output works only with max. volume knob and level is also not so high. If I want test DM7 I have to connect DM7 headphone output to MP3 combo input. But the sound is not nice as should be at drum equalizer controlled combo input.

The sound on all the stock kits I found to be too low. What I did was create a custom kit and altered the dynamics of all the pads and cymbals - once you're in the dynamics settings, just hit the pads/cymbals the hardest you normally would and save that setting!

How to connect my mixer to my guitar combo

You don't mention the make and models of the gear you're asking about, so we can't address your pacifist setup. However, most mixer outputs are going to be at line level, whereas a guitar amp inputs are instrument level. Line level is way hotter than a guitar amp can handle. You need to find a mixer that has a -10dB output to do what you're asking.

Very low volume on all drums.

I don't think there is anything wrong, it has a very low line level output intentionally. This is to minimize distortion to an amp or mixer. Mine is the same and also a different brand. It is actually made so you could play it through a stereo without damaging it.

CAN I PLUG IT IN TO MY AMP

Yes the output jack socket can be used either to:
  • plug in a set of headphones for personal listening / practice
  • to connect to an amplifier.
The zoom pedals use either a mono or (tip and sleeve) or stereo (tip, ring. sleeve) 1/4 inch jackplug - i.e a standard guitar lead.
You should plug it into a line-level or high impedance socket on your amp. With the pedal in play mode you can adjust the output level (gain) to match the input requirements of your amp by rotating the 'Value' knob (top right)

When i plug in a external drum machine or ipod to aux in, i cant hear it out the speaker and only through headphones

This is how it is designed to operate - the aux input is for practice use only and is only routed to the headphones socket and not the speaker. Your only options are to use a different amp for your IPOD or drum machine or to use a mini-mixer to input the combined signals of guitar and IPOD through the single input socket on the BG500

Alesis sr16: How do you hook it up??

Come from the main outputs, probably labeled L/mono and R and connect those to your mixer for your audio system on either stereo mix input OR two two inputs that are panned opposite.. DO NOT connect this to a consumer type stereo system as you may blow the speakers or amp. Consumer stuff just isn't able to take output from music equipment such as this UNLESS the volume is kept very low.

Electronic drum kit, with USB out, problem

Sounds to me like you have the midi tracks outputting to the microsoft midi mapper or wavetable synth, which is built into the sound chip in your pc, and that this is conflicting with the mobilepre sound card - midi is just data, no audio, needs to drive some kind of synth. what you want to do is disable your internal sound card thru device manager, then just use the m-audio mobile pre as the input/output sound card in ASIO mode - you'll need to monitor via the headphone jack on the mobile pre or plug speakers into the line outs on the interface.

Then do tutorial 8 (in help files) on using soft synths - INSERT>SOFTSYNTHs creates a midi track and an audio track in a track folder.

Good luck.

The dude.
