Should be plug and play. Is this a local printer? Load driver for printer.

Printer not wireless, does windows 8.1 accept it?

If your computer has USB ports, you can hook the printer up to the computer, and download the correct software to install that printer to your computer. I have a printer that is not wireless, and windows 8.1, and all I had to do was turn on the laptop, and the printer, and plug the printer into a USB. It automatically installed the printer, and I set it as my default printer.

I am told I need a cable to connect the printer to the computer but the printer is wireless

You wouldnt not as long as you have a wireless router hooked up so the printer can communicate with your pc. If you dont have wireless router then yes you would need wire. Even though printer is wireless it has to communicate wirelessly with something..

How to hook up a wireless printer to a computer

Does the printer also have some "wired" interface (parallel-port, or USB-port)?

If not, then you need to purchase a router with wireless capability:

1. Connect cable-modem (or DSL-modem) to the 'WAN' (or 'IInternet') port on the router.

2. Connect one of the 'LAN' ports on the router to the network-port on your computer.

3. Configure the wireless-adapter inside the router:
* set an SSID -- the "name" of your wireless network
* encryption-level -- use 'WPA' or 'WPA2'
* a password for your network

4. Configure the wireless printer to connect to that SSID, using the password

5. On the computer, click "Add Networked Printer"

6. Print a "test" page: computer -> wired -> router -> wireless -> printer

Hello,
Since you changed from Wireless to USB I would recommend either reinstalling or selecting "add a printer" and allow the computer to automatically add the local printer.
Thanks,

All you should need to do is connect the HP printer to your wireless router via Ethernet cable (which should be included with the printer). Follow the instructions that came with your printer to set it up on your computer.

How to hook up this printer wireless to my main computer

Hi jjank740;

First off, did you try to recycle your printer? Turn it off and back on again. Sometimes power outages can disconnect that printer. If that doesn't work. Go to the printer and access the system network configuration on the led panel. Type in the WEP number and password again, and let it search for the connection. That should do it. Once it's connected you'll see the blue wireless indicator turn on.

Good Luck

Mark
