Question about Audio Players & Recorders

Open Question

My STR-DE505 does not output surround sound for 2 rear speakers and a center speaker after the system had been working smoothly for many years. I have tested the speakers, they are OK. Does that mean a module(s) associated with the surround sound is gone?

SOURCE: Speaker output

My unit does the same thing, I read online to install a RCA Patch cord from Main-In to Main Out and it worked.
I contacted Yamaha and they wanted to charge me to fix the issue and they will not fix it under warranty because I did not buy the unit from a authorized Yamaha dealer. Obviously a design flaw.

SOURCE: No sound from rear speakers during test tone usng Sony STR-DE475

I had this problem last night.

To solve it, you can reset the amp by:

1) Put the receiver on stand-by
2) Hold down "MODE" button and press on button
3) "S.F. CLR" appears in the display and surround is back on.

Good luck

SOURCE: Speakers pop and rear speakers cut out of surround sound

Hi,
your problem is a bad solder connection of the relay linked to the lautspeaker sockets. I had the same problem and googled for the solution. Since I resoldered the pins everything is fine. That problem is well known and happens to a lot of Sony receivers.

I can send you a link with a detailed how-to-do solution with pictures, however it's written in german language. But you can use some online translators.

SOURCE: Kenwood VR-305 receiver surround speakers will not work

make sure that all input cables are in the correct positon also make sure that any inputs you are using don't have a macrovision in them that will also kill your sound due to copyright laws and stuff but main thing check all wires coming in to receiver and if you need more inputs go to walmart and get a rca splitter basicaly its a 1 in two out connection to add more cables in the input

Speaker Channels? STR-DE505

Hi There,

Maybe can clarify the reasons you have different output configurations.
I worked for Dolby in London for ten years and cinema processing was an area close to me.

To cut a long story short;

The number of factors and different combinations possible for a fully equipped cinema offering Dolby and / or other protocols to the guest is large to say the least even within the Dolby formats.

For Sony to try to offer a range of home units (recievers or tuner/amps/decoders in this case) was to say the least ambitious .but hey!..........who else can give the public what they think they need.,,,good old Sony

I have looked at this unit and it seems the "amplifier section" is used for various configourations
and power output ratings vary depending on the configuration you choose.

Stereo 2 ch L+R is 2 x 75w

Surround requires more channels (centre and mono rear) and of course new signal routing to and from these blocks which of course will draw from the modest power supply.

So 4 channel surround will deliver 4 x 50w.

etc. etc.............what you hear are the relays which are reconfiguring and re - routing the signals.

Basically you cant have all the sections working all the time due to cost /design restraints

So speakers A OR B can be used but not BOTH when in surround mode....where the centre and surround are needed. .you cant have A and B at any time....push both buttons an NEITHER will work ....release one button and there you go.............it saves "letting the smoke out of the box".........which you should never do...........cos they never work without it. :)

Sorry for boring you ...............but I think you will find the unit is working just fine.............you could read the manual but that's not too informative.

Right...off to get a life now

Nik

Rear speakers not working on STR-K740P

The only way your surround sound will work is if you have either the coaxial or fiber optic digital hookups attached to a PS3/Blueray/DVD/Cable box/Satellite box that have digital sound outputs. If you are just using the 1970's version of the red/white audio cables that is stero only.

The center speaker shouldn't be on the surround outputs it should be on the Center output. The surround outputs are for the rear speakers.
