I am trying to use a new mp3 player, but get device not recognized. I have tried several new players (even different brands), and old players, all get same error- USB device not recognized. In device manager, it shows as unknown device, and under properties it shows drivers not installed. I have verified everything (XP service pack 3, windows media player 11). And even stumped the tech support with one of the player manufacturers. I am sure the problem is my computer, in particular my usb. I have several other devices that all work fine. I have also tried every usb port on my computer. I have other devices that work fine, even with the same cable. I have previously had 2 mp3's work fine. I thought was player, (kids wore out, etc) so I got new ones- exact same kind- all get the same error. so I suspect even the old players are good- the problem is the computer.

Your player which is used not support some files. If you use some china product players it will support all types of video and audio formats. Sometimes the company product players have some sensors on the front or back side. if we remove that sensor it may work.

SOURCE: Sansa e260 says connected but device not recognized

I agree with the above suggestion. Try setting the USB Mode under "Settings" on "MSC" on the Sansa. My computer would not recognize the e260 when the mode was set to "MTP"; works fine on "MSC".

SOURCE: USB port problems with hp printer

There are few things to remember using USB.

  • If your System is in hybernation mode, don't remove any attached USB device, because it will damage your USB driver. This is one of the known problem from microsoft.
  • If you have to remove any USB device use 'Safely Remove Hardware'.

To remove currepted USB drivers its not enough to remove your printer drivers.
  1. You should un-install the 'Universal Serial Bus Controllers' from Device Manager.
  2. Then re-boot to clean registry.
  3. Install the 'Universal Serial Bus Controllers' using XP Setup CD.
  4. Then check the Mass storage, PDA etc, it should recognized by XP.
  5. Then install printer driver (don't attach printer to system untill setup finish or setup says to connect).

I think it will fix.
Please let me know your feed-back.

Thanks
Iqbal

SOURCE: Sansa M230 not seen in Explorer or Windows Media Player

We had the same problem with Windows XP. We found some help on the Sandisk web site. On the device go to the Settings menu, then USB. We changed from AutoDetect to MSC mode and everything is working again. Our computer saw all of the songs on our computer fine. Some of the old songs on the Sansa didn't show up on the detect list in Windows Media Player, but they were still on the device.

Computer doesn't recognized the mp3

Hi,

this could be a vista compatability issue.
if you have driver or installation cds with the players, try installing any software.
also try a different usb port on the computer, as the port may have already assigned itself, for other devices.
try looking in the device manager, to see if the computer detects the device. but has problems or issues. usually a yellow triangle or exclamation mark.
Finally connect the device, and use ( Add new Hardware Wizard )

thankyou for using Fixya.

MP3 Player not recognized as being connected to USB port

If you do not have the installation disk, Open my Computer with your mp3player plugged in, then look for your mp3players brand name. open this file and simply drag files in.

If you cannot get the computer to recognize it at all, look for your a driver on google e.g: iRiver driver.

Good luck, respond with more details if you can't figure it out.

Coby mp3 player isn't recognized by windows

Do you have Vista? If so, get the Vista-compatible software from coby's website - if they even have any

If you have XP:
Either the device is bad, the pc port is bad, or the software is faulty. Try connecting to different usb port, then a usb port on a different pc with a compatible os. If still not recognized, then there is physical damage to player.

Try this: disconnect the player from the computer, turn it off, hold in the volume + button, and reconnect the player to the computer while holding the volume + button in. Keep holding the volume + button for an additional 5-50 seconds. Windows should eventually go into recovery mode and revive the player- it will pop up a window that says Found New Hardware.

Vision M not recognized

I'm having the exact same problem. My zen is 'charging' but isn't detected anywhere on my pc and I'd leave it charging for days but nothing happens. I've tried different usb ports, reinstalling the software several times but nothing. I recently reinstalled Windows and with my new pc my Zen cannot work on it for some reason?! I put previous files from my old pc onto my Zen hoping that I could transfer them onto my new Windows pc but I fear I've lost the data on my Zen completely. Arggh, any suggestions guys? Please..x

Computer doesn't recognize songs on the player

Go to disc utility and click on erase volume, then you will be able to add new songs. Unfortunately, as far as I can tell, you may have to delete the entire volume and start over.

No device detected

This is the worst mp3 player ever invented - i have to tell you this up front. There is no driver, the company does not support the product anymore - I would return it now while you still can.
