Start-control panel-appearance and personalization-screen resolution...if that doesn't work i'm not sure what to tell you. I have used a LCD tv as my computer monitor and it took a little playing around to get mine to work. you can actually set it up as far as monitor 1 or 2 and have it so you see your computer screen and the tv screen. you can drag pages from your computer screen to the tv screen....kinda cool

Monitor switch always return to Sleeo Mode

You can open the VGA cable and connect it again, sometimes there are two or three vga ports behind your cpu, connect the right one. Try it, if not success, change the cable.

White screen

What can you do if the laptop LCD screen turned completely white? 1. Loose connection between the video cable and the LCD screen.
2. Defective LCD screen.
3. Defective motherboard (I assume the graphics card is integrated into the motherboard). Here's an example of a laptop with white screen. When you turn on the laptop, it starts but the image on the screen is completely white right from the beginning.

Most likely you still can use the laptop with an external monitor. Just connect the monitor to the VGA port on the back or side of your laptop and then switch the video output from internal to external mode.

On Toshiba laptops you can toggle between internal and external screens using Fn+F5 keys. Hold down Fn and press on F5 until you get video on the external monitor.
On IBM laptops use Fn+F7.
On HP laptops use Fn+F4.

It's possible that you have to use a different key combination on your laptop but you get the idea.

On some laptops, in order to be able to use the external monitor, you have to connect it to the laptop and then restart the laptop so the external monitor is detected by the laptop. In some cases the laptop screen may turn white because of poor connection between the video cable and the LCD screen. If you want to check this connection, you'll have to take apart the display panel because the connector is located on the back side of the LCD screen.

These laptop service manuals and disassembly instructions may be useful. Always check the video cable connection first. Reconnecting the video cable may fix your problem.

If reconnecting the video cable doesn't help, most likely you have a problem either with the LCD screen or with the motherboard. The best way to find out witch one is causing the problem is testing the laptop with another working LCD screen. you will need to connect to another monitor or your television to your computer with the vga lead monitor connection click start control panel display change display settings adjust resolution this may vary depending on your operating system you should see a no 1 and a no 2 with detect and identify keep an eye on the screen when you select the number tabs this may vary depending on your operating system when you select the no 2 tab this should be the extended desktop always click apply after making any changes or click start control panel administration tools computer management device manager scroll to monitors right click select scan for hardware changes if you can get an extended desktop your monitor is faulty if you cant get an exended desktop

Ibm thinkpad wont connect to LG TV

Lower the screen resolution to 720 dpi.

Another issue is the reference to RGB. Is it the 3 cable (YPBPR) or the standard 15 pin VGA? You may need a converter.

My 20' monitor will not turn on. It says at start-up "VGI-DVI cable signal not received" I shut off the computer properly last night. Please assist

Do you have it connected though a VGA cable or a VGI-DVI cable? I have the same monitor and you just got to make sure that you are using the right port. You could always switch from VGA to DVI through the source button on the right corner on the front of the monitor right by the (Auto-ok) button..

Please let me know if this was helpful and if itsolved the problem! Also if the information provided was helpful, please clickon the appropriate thumbs to make us aware that the problem has been correctedor that the information provided helped you with the problem.. Thank you andGood Luck.

We've hooked up a desktop PC to our Philips 40pfl5505d/f7, and we can get video but not sound. we have a stereo mini cable from the speaker (green) slot in the comp. to the PC audio in/ out slots...

if you have the video cable connect via the vga to vga lead then if you look next to where the vga cable is connected on the tv there is a pc audio input socket, what you need is a 3.5mm stereo jack to a 3.5mmjack you have it on the right connection on the pc you just need to connect it to the right input on the tv which as i have said is next to the vga plug

I'm connecting to a tv with a VGA cable from my Acer netbook. My tv says No Signal. Windows makes the "ba dum" sound when I connect/disconect the cable, but under my display settings, it doesn't...

Don't forget that the TV source or input needs to be set to "PC". Once that is done turn the netbook OFF, then plug the VGA cable into the netbook and start the computer. The computer screen should automatically show up on the TV.

No display with vga or dvi, but "no signal" without cable

Stick with the VGA cable. You have tried several PC's but are you also using the same cable? Bad cable perhaps? How about software conflicts? Really should not be an issue as most are plug and play.
Try connecting a laptop to it with the VGA cable. Use the Function "FN" key with the F series on top row...the one with the LCD or monitor icon on it, usually F5, F7 or F8. This tells the laptop that you have connected an additional external monitor to it. If that fails, something is faulty with the monitor and there is not much I can do to help. Sorry...but let me know about the laptop connection.

Broken screen, external monitor via VGA won't

Press "Fn+F7" once, wait a few seconds, and press it again, to "cycle" through all the possibilities (LCD-only, VGA-only, both).

Try the monitor with some other computer (desktop or laptop) to see if the monitor works at all.

Restart your computer -- does the initial "splash" screen (showing CPU speed and RAM-test) show? Does the "Windows" screen (with the crawling worm) show on the external monitor?
