My camera was left on and died. Is there anything I can do to fix it myself or do I have to send it off to get it repaired?

Very often on the G9's, they get the problem of the loose screws inside the camera leaving it with no power from the short. Unless you are very skilled, I would leave it to a shop so it can get fixed right.
If you go to: www.camerasandparts.com they just specialize in the Canon Powershot cameras and they are completely familiar with this problem. They actually have this issue right there on there site under their service packages. They charge $89 for everything, you get the parts, labor and return shipping all included with them. The neat thing is they automatically include the internal no power correction to any G9 they repair and the other nice thing is they also include all of the service for the camera at the same time.
If you need help with a Canon Powershot, they're the place. They do wonderful work on these models.

The Canon G9 has a design defect, two screws fall out inside the camera and short out the fuse. If you've never had it fixed for no power before this is most likely what has happened to your camera.

Do a Google search for "canon g9 no power repair" and you will see a full repair service including return shipping of your camera for just $85.
Hope this helps!

It's probably a malfunctioning CCD Imager, but before you send off your camera for repair, try to see if the user manual has anything in regards to centering the image:

My camera lense is stuck out and when I turn on the camera it makes a funny noise and says "lense error" on the screen. Is there anything I can do to fix it myself before taking it to get fixed?

Sounds like the camera lens is jammed. Before you take it to become repaired, try cleaning the crevices of the lens module to make sure there isn't any loose dirt or debris in there. Try applying very gentle pressure to the lens and see if it retracts or moves.
If it still won't budge, it's probably an internal problem with the mechanism retracting the lens, there's not much you can do but send it off to get fixed.
Cheers!

Do you have a lens collimator and other equipment necessary to make sure the lens elements are aligned properly when you put it back together? If not, DO NOT try to take the lens apart yourself, but have it fixed by a trained professional.

Water has got inside the camera and is causing the problems you have stated.
The battery is discharging quickly due to the water damage and the pictures you are able to still take have symptoms of over exposure, most likely caused by water in the lens.
The cost to try and repair would almost certainly match that of buying another camera. Just depends on who you send it to to have it looked at.

My flash stopped working - can I repair it myself with a part?

Contact Canon Directly. They will have you send it in and they will look at it. if it is less than a year old and no signs of abuse they should fix it free of charge.
It will also be quicker working with them directly instead of trying to go through a repair center.

No Flash function on Kodak Easyshare Z612

To both, I'm afraid you need to send the out camera for repair.

Camera flashes use a capacitor that holds the electric energy for the flash. It takes some time to charge and discharges very rapidly to generate the light pulse. Capacitors are notorious in their reliability. They tend to disconnect and die or short circuit and die.

In camera1234's case it might just died disconnected.

In sheranne case it might died short circuiting. In this case the camera should not be used since the battery might explode.
