ATI Display driver stopped responding and has recovered message

An easy solution to fix this problem is to visit the manufacturer website and download the device specific drivers.

If you are a non-technical user then i would suggest to use Driver scanner tool that will search for drivers online.
you can get the Driver scanner here;

Uninstall the current display drivers from the Control Panel > Remove Programs.

Then, go to Windows Update to download their version of the driver. It will work.

ATI Radeon HD 45xx adapters
• On some configurations, the display driver may stop responding when resolution
is set to 2048x1536 with 8X Anti-Alias and Edge Detect filter enabled

Display driver problem

This is a common sign of a driver conflict error. It usually happens when two or more drivers are requesting the same resources, or if the diver has become corrupted or if the driver was just plainly poorly written.

Below is a link to HP/Compaq's Driver update page for your computer.
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareList?os=2093&lc=en&dlc=en&cc=us&product=3644737&lang=en

The driver you want in particular is the Graphics driver (The 2nd on the list) Though you may want to update all that are not up to date(This would Lessen the likelyhood of future conflicts)

Another possible soultion might be to upgrade away from integrated graphics.

Hope this helps,
Dave

Try downloading the driver from the nvidia instead of dell. I had a dell for 3 years and found that the drivers they provided only worked 30% of the time.

Ati video driver

You're ATI video card has software called VPU recovery. You can shut that off in you're display properties. Suggest you upgrade you're current display drivers. If you are running Windows XP any version, than click on the link below & download the latest driver combo for you're notebook. Creat a folder on you're desktop & save the download into that folder.
After the download is complete, open add/remove programs & uninstall the older driver software. (Do not restart you're notebook)! Install the new driver combo. Than restart you're notebook.
ATI mobility radeon driver link. Choose the correct card.
