Micreowave does not heat items. Turntable, fan, and interior lights all work. Sound while running changes after about 3-5 seconds.

The magnetron has more than likely failed, "heats food" but also! the high voltage capacitor and diode can be a source of trouble, chances are repairs will exceed the cost of a new microwave oven.

Turntable is not turning and we do not have a manual Model is JVM1660BB005 GE Profile

The turntable on many of these models get their power from the internal cooling fan.

When I say internal cooling fan, I do not mean the hood vent exhaust fan which you can turn on and off manually.

I'm instead talking about the internal fan which comes on automatically whenever you microwave.

It is vital that the cooling fan runs, or the turntable and stirrer won't work, and magnetron will soon be destroyed.

We have a sound clip of what a microwave should sound like when the cooling fan and high voltage section are operating here.

There should be a "mini-manual" (tech sheet) hidden inside the unit behind the control panel or hidden on the left side behind the grille, which is very helpful when troubleshooting, testing, and locating components.

At our Web site, we have a video available showing how to remove a typical over the range control panel assembly in under 5 minutes.

You can find helpful exploded view diagrams and order parts by entering your full model number here.

The plate is not turning

If the oven is STILL heating, but the carousel isn't turning, this problem is commonly attributed to a turntable motor that has worn out and may need to be replaced. The motor is attached to the center plastic piece (called a turntable shaft or coupler) under the middle of the glass tray. The following link explains how to access and replace one:

http://www.fixya.com/support/r3555716-replacing_a_turntable_motor_on_a_microwa

This is a very simple repair, that usually is not expensive. The price range will be determined by the model and manufacturer. This repair can also be performed on an over the range model microwave oven WITHOUT uninstalling it.

You can refer to any of the following websites for comparison:

searspartsdirect.com
pcappliancerepair.com
appliancepartspros.com
repairclinic.com

The first three sites listed have helpful exploded view diagrams to assist you with locating and properly identifying the part(s) you need.

If the model number is correct, the part number for a replacement motor is WB26X10038. You may also check the turntable shaft to make sure it is not stripped and slipping on the motor shaft. The part number for the turntable shaft is WB06X10138.

If you have any questions, please post back and let me know. I hope this helps you.

The second under cabinet light went out with a pop, and the vent fan went out with it. Is there a fuse for both somewhere? The turntable motor and light and fan still work. Will th vent fan come back on if...

There is a varistor or thermostat switch mounted on the wall behind the control panel. I unpluged the leads and shorted them together. the fan and lights started working again. I got another microwave off freecycle.org for parts. I noticed a lot of sites tend to point to the control panel for a $36 to $100 board repair. Don't fall for it. H.G.

Coupler has stopped turning

The turntable system consists of the motor, the coupler, the turntable support with rollers, and the tray.

You can see and hear a video of how a turntable motor should sound when you rotate it by hand.

If yours won't rotate or it sounds like it's grinding, etc., you may have a bad motor or plastic coupler.

To replace either, you need to unplug power, then remove the bottom cover of the oven.

But first you should also be sure that the internal cooling fan is working, because in this model, that's where the stirrer and turntable motors get their power - from a tap on the cooling fan motor!

Probably the easiest way to check this is to remove your stirrer cover, place a cup of water on the tray, then microwave for about a minute.

Watch through the glass and see if the metal stirrer is slowly rotating.

If not, the problem may be a bad cooling fan.

It is vital that the cooling fan runs, or the magnetron will be destroyed, too.

If you're not sure how to remove your stirrer cover, it's covered in your owner's manual.

If for some reason you don't have your owner's manual, you can download GE owner's manuals and installation instructions here.

You can usually find helpful exploded view diagrams and order parts by entering your full model number here.
