Question about Bell Microproducts Hammer Z-Box HZD4B-1000 (HZD4B1000) 250 GB Network Storage Server

2 Answers

I have a hzd4b with 4 1-tb drives all new. I try to connect to the box to initilize the system but cannot. I believe the firmware is loaded on the hard drives them selves like the buffalo nas solution. what I want to know is there an alternate way to init the system to begin using it? Any help would be great.

Petrykja,
I have the same issue as you. I bought an encloser to hold my drives (that i already owned). My firmware is showing 0.38 so I don't think the firmware is housed on the hard drive. However, when I try to upgrade the firmware it says that it can't find the drive to load from. So I think the firmware is first loaded to one of the drives and then to the motherboard. Not sure. Any luck with this wince December?

Hard disk gb maximum

Hello here is the homepage:

http://www.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=3505#dl

The mainboard does not have a limit for the harddrive size.
But the windows system sometimes have a limit especially windows xp.
A new sata driver or a bios upgrade is sometimes needed when you add a big harddrive.
Note: take care not to flash the bios with a wrong one if needed.
And also the new drive must be formatted ( in NTFS format ) before you can use it.
If you still run windows xp, try to make more partitions, so windows can see the new drives.
Other system like windows 7, does not have this limit.

Good luck

I have a WD 1.5 TB drive my bios thinks it is a 500 GB drive I csant find a bios patch any ideas

1st, go to your motherboard's website and download the newest firmware for your board. After updating the firmware, you can connect your drive again.
If you have the latest firmware already, you can get a USB enclosure for your drive and convert it into an exteranl drive. It will be slower and you won't be able to boot from it.
If your motherboard is simply uncompatbile, there is not much else you can do. You could buy an inexpensive motherboard, they cost as little as 50$, but you will need new ram and a new processor, etc.

Purchased new Iomega 1 TB Home Media network HD, and both my MBP and PC windows 7 won't recognize the device.

you have to initilize the disk in disk management utility, heres how (windows XP)

  1. Click on Start and then Control Panel.
  2. Click on the Performance and Maintenance link.
Note: If you're viewing the Classic View of Control Panel, you won't see this link. Just double-click on the Administrative Tools icon and skip to Step 4.
  3. In the Performance and Maintenance window, click on the Administrative Tools link located under the or pick a Control Panel icon heading near the bottom of the window.
  4. In the Administrative Tools window, double-click on Computer Management.
  5. When Computer Management opens, click on Disk Management on the left.
In a few seconds, Disk Management will load on the right side of the Computer Management window.
Note: If you don't see Disk Management listed, you may need to click on the + icon to the left of Storage to expand the option.
  6. You can now format a hard drive, change a drive's letter, partition a hard drive, or do whatever else you need to do in Windows XP's Disk Management tool.

Firmware is showing. 0.0.38. Can not access drive

ariesat, I have the same problem. I dropped down to the older version of the PSM and I can see the enclosure. the firmware upgrade fails stating that there is no disk available. I believe there is some partitions that need to be on the disks to do the firmware upgrade. I havent found that answer yet. I will keep looking and will try to let you know if I find anything. Please let me know if you do the same. John

Western Digital drive disappears

i heard that it must be installed under SATA 3 or 4 and only the c drive or system drives are to be under SATA 1 and 2. You change this in the BIOS i think.
