Your smoke detectors, heat sensors or fire pull stations (depends on what is installed in your system) are located on your 4 zones. The wiring that connects these sensors to your fire control panel is supervised by an end-of-line resistor. Starting at the panel all wiring on that zone is daisy chained between each detector with the resistor being placed at the last detector. The panel looks for this resistance value at all times. If one of your detectors goes into alarm this creates a short. This is how the system recognizes an alarm state. Conversely, if there is break in the wiring the system fails to see any resistance and the panel will indicate a problem or trouble condition. The most likely cause of your 2 problems is either broken or cut wiring, ie; the system no longer sees the end-of-line resistance. If you are handy and have access to a multimeter you can measure resistance along the zone loop by disconnecting the zone wires from the panel and measuring wire resistance from each detector to the last one. Most Firelite systems use a 4.7k ohm resistor so you should see this at the zone wiring from the panel. If you don't, try removing a detector somewhere in the middle of the circuit and try again. Once you find a detector with that resistance your problem lies between that detector and the panel. It is just a matter of isolating the problem by measuring the zone resistance along different points of the zone wiring. If you are not comfortable doing this by yourself then I would suggest getting either an electrician or fire alarm tech to track down the problem. Hope this helps.

How to diconnect a zone on ademco 4120xm alarm?

If you're going to disconnect the zone, you either need to remove it from programming as well, or you need to strap the zone out with the correct resistor so that the panel doesn't show it faulted all the time. I've attempted to attach the schematic for that panel, which you should also have affixed to the inside of the metal enclosure lid.

False alarm

If it's showing alarm and the number 06, this means the panel believes zone 6 went into alarm. What's on zone 6, motion, door, panic button?

I have a customer with an older Vista 100-12 Combo Burg / Fire Panel and he wantes to tie three tamper switches for PIV and OS&Y to zone 2 of this panel. Is this legal?

negative all os&y should be on their own zone. they are programmed differently. A panel tamper is just a tamper alarm supervisory alarm.

late answer i know.

but no, the simplex 2001 is not an addressable fire alarm panel. it is a zoned panel.

this panel has not been made for several years and new parts cannot be obtained. it may be possible to obtain used parts if you call your local simplexgrinnell office.

An "alarm Memory" indicates that a zone was activated the last time the system was armed. To view what zone caused the problem press the * key (star) + the 3 key. To reset the memory simply arm the system and disarm. Hope this helps.

Where to connect fire alarm to a combination starter with a hand/off/auto/switch

The fire alarm (usually an open contact, held closed during healthy operation) MUST go in series with the supply to the switch. This is normally incoming to a terminal which is linked between the hand and auto positions. If this is a full control panel, the fire alarm connection SHOULD be used to drop out the entire control circuit. Can you supply wiring diagram?

I can't reset my Atomic Traveling Alarm Clock C17DD2090(WIC#6930

First, make sure you have new batteries in it. Then you have two choices:

Hold down the 3rd button -- the antenna button -- until the little antenna sign displayed on the right starts blinking and "broadcasting"...and then wait for the clock to set itself.

When that doesn't work (LOL), try this:
Hold down the "Set" button until each of the various fields start blinking. Then press the up button (3rd one) or the down button (4th one) to adjust each field to the desired number, etc. At least, that's what my office technician did to set mine. Good luck.
