Question about Rheem Paloma PTG-74PVN / RTG-74PVN Natural Gas Indoor

Replaced mother board due to error code c2 11 as per rheem tech department. now code 11 flashes after 3 to 4 minutes of use and unit shuts off. WHAT NOW????

Rheem, Richmond, Ruud, and Paloma are all the same manufacturer. After about 9 months, my tankless RTG-74PVN started giving me error code 11 and cold water!. I fixed it by cleaning the burner, as shown in this video:

Gas is inadequate. Open the Gas Shutoff Valve all the way.

    That was stupid. If you can figure out how to rePlace the circuit board I'm sure he can turn the FKING gas nob on!!

What does a C4/76 error code mean


I just went through lots of troubleshooting the same problem. Most searches will tell you its a communication error with the remote. After I was able to rule out the wiring, I bought a new remote ($70), hooked it up and immediately got the same error. Called Rheem Tech Support at 866-720-2076. They said code 76 meant I needed a new control board and chip. My unit was out of warranty but they sent the needed parts and detailed install instructions the same day, via FedEx overnight! It was a very simple task to replace. I happen to own 4 different units and am very glad I chose Rheem brand. Its not often I encounter a company willing to stand behind their products, even after the warranty period. Oh, and if you disconnect the remote control wires from the main unit (unplug unit, then remove face panel and they will be labeled, hooked on 2 small phillips head screws, replace panel and plug back in) your unit should still (more often than not) kick on and heat to about 100F by default...a do-able shower temp :) hope this helps!

1) You want the truth: Forget tankless.
There are many tankless water heaters with insoluble problems.
And endless problems.
Rheem knows it.

2) Do you really expect your home computer to work flawless after replacing motherboard?
Get your money back from Rheem, or get a full replacement.

3) OR fix water heater yourself today: Install tank-type gas water heater for $350 from local box store.
FYI: Do not buy Rheem, Richmond, Ruud, GE as these units from Rheem have problems that require service technicians.
Instead buy Whirlpool, American, State, Craftmaster, Reliance, Kenmore, as these units from AO Smith have fewer problems and can be repaired by homeowner using simple part replacement.

My ecosense 180dvn sends out an error code of 13 after 2min 30 seconds. It is always after 2:30 min. I can shut it off after 2 min and back on and it continues to run. But the water has to be shut off...


I have the exact same problem with error code 13 on my Rheem/Ecosense 180dvn . The unit ran good for at least a year, and then I started getting the same error 13 every few minutes. I called the Rheem service department, and they told me to check the vent installation as well as the gas pressure. I reinstalled the vent with new seals. I only have about 6 ft of vent, so there should be very little resistance. I checked the gas pressure, and it shows 9 in H20 pressure, which is well in the range recommended. The service center scoffed at the suggestion that it could be their circuit board. I am totally at a losss and at the verge of ripping this very expensive installation out of my attic.

My tankless indoor water heater has an error code C4 76


Error code 76 indicates a communication error with the electronic board and the unit. Call Paloma/Rheem with the serial number and model number of your unit and they will, in most cases, send you a new board with instructions on how to easily replace the board.

Error code 13 (air flow) tankless H20 Rheem


Have 2 of these Rheem units in my house. Both had this same error code within 30 days of each other. And my neighbor has 2 units as well - and guess what - 2 months after mine stopped working because of the code - so did theirs. It is not something that can be fixed. It is a manufacturer's defect - and it looks like Rheem has yet another class action on their hands (like the one for the RTG - 74 PVN). They need to do a recall to repace these units.

I have a paloma tankless water heater about 3 years old model PTG-74PVN and it works for 2 minutes and shuts off with error code C4 and 13 flashing. (City water pressure is fine)Can anyone help? Thanks...


I had the same problem with my Paloma a year and a half after installation...contacted Rheem customer service (800-432-8373) and they recommened a local installer in my area. The technican diagnosed the problem as the "flow control valve"; he managed to get Rheem/Paloma to cover the part under warranty...I only had to shell out the money for the install.

Error code 76 C4 heater shuts off every 5 mins while in shower


Remove power source from the unit. If remote control2.gif is installed; remove cover and lift the control wires on the terminal...can be accomplished from either end.

Restore power and see if unit functions normally.

Contact Paloma/Rheem customer (800-432-8373) support and notify them IF you are getting a code "76" error. Rheem has recently extended the warranty on the "Burner Control Assm."; which is your problem. The C4-C8 portion of the error code, is where the unit stops the ignition process...burner fails to light, or gives you intermittent hot water. In either case, contact customer support2.gif.

your not getting enough fresh air to it. where is it located? you need 1 square inch per 1000 btu's. it's having irregular combusion.

How to correct error code C-7 on my RTG-74PVN Rheem Pronto


I had the same problem and called the manufacturer. The error code C-8 was followed by the number 76. They told me to disconnect the thermostat/digital display from the main unit. This was fairly simple to do by removing the front panel. The unit works steady now without shutting down after a few minutes. The help desk told me that the main circuit board needs to be replaced for the unit to work with the display and that they would mail me one asap. At least we have hot water again.
