Gateway Warranty Best Buy - I bought a gateway MX6930 lap top. I puchased the extended warranty. The battery will not hold a charge and the network card discharge button has broken off. How do I get the battery sent to me? Where do I get the unit fixed? Is my warranty receipt required or does the store or Gateway have a record of the warranty? Thanks; Chuck Mouranie

I have a gateway nv44 and it will on power on if the screen is in the right position. I have to hold down the power button and move the screen up and down until it come on. Then it works fine.


It sounds like you have worn, loose or cut wires at or near your laptops hinges. You need to contact gateway if it is under warranty or the purchase place if you have an extended warranty through them. If it's out of warranty you will have to find a technician that repairs gateway laptops or pay for gateway to fix it.

Have an extended warranty on my acer lap top internet port burned out trying to get it fixed bought on nov.25th 2008 and have and extended warranty until 11/25 2011 how do i file claim


You need to find out who your warranty is covered through. Example if you purchased it at Best Buy, then contact Best Buy and they will give you the warranty group information or help you setup the claim. Or if you have your extended sales information that you should have received at the time of purchase, you can refer to that also.

Need a copy of warranty for Gateway M-1626 laptop


Find the serial-number for your Gateway computer -- usually somewhere on the label(s) on the bottom.

Access Gateway's web-site:

http://support.gateway.com/support/srt/allsysteminfo.aspx?sn=new

and enter the serial-number, to get information, hopefully including "warranty-status" for your system.

I have a Gateway MX6930. I purchased a new battery because the old one's life had shortened so much. The new one worked fine for a few days but now doesn't work at all. The battery charge light illuminates...

Yes you are right, a defective battery.
It's always recommended that you use manufacturers endorsed hardware because of this fact!!
Return the battery and get a new one. when you get the new battery don't charge it, just use it until its dead and then recharge it. It will then hold 100% charge.

Dropped my gateway laptop. Now it wont charge battery.


If you do not have either a manufacturer warranty or extended warranty from the retailer use it now. Contact them. Avoid telling them that you dropped the computer...you will void a manufacturer warranty. If you don't have either option then you can continue portability with an external laptop battery. They tend to be heavy, but they tend to provide 5 or more hours of portable use. The extended battery plugs into the same socket as your regular external power supply. We have numerous Gateway servers. The server business was sold to MPC and now they've gone under. Where do we go for support? Some of our servers are still under warranty - is that now useless?


Support, you're out of luck I'm afraid. Find a local computer company that can do server work on the scale you need would be my best suggestion. The warranty is a little trickier. It depends on exactly what warranty you got. If I understand correctly and you bought the servers from Gateway before they sold, then Gateway still holds warranty obligations on them IF you have certain warranties then they must replace with equivalent or better - but seeing as they got out of servers, they will probably just give you a desktop that is comparable in specs, even though it's not at all the same thing. A description of the Gateway warranties is here. I kind of doubt that you'll get any traction unless you bring up the legal obligations they have under the specific document that covers your case. Even then, they might refuse and you'd have to get lawyers involved, but at this point it's probably not worth it.

So it took me that long to say: Probably Gateway won't do anything for you. Possibly you can get spares from online retailers or auction sites to replace your aging hardware, but this technique can only last so long.

Unfortunately, you can't solve this problem. What I have learned as the tech working on a customers gateway mt6451 is that Gateway dropped the ball when they bought a cheap (they spent 5 cents instead of 20 cents) motherboard component that allows the adapter to charge battery and run the notebook without the battery installed, the component seems to have a 1 year if that life. I am surprised they haven't been sued or forced to extend the warranty (like HP had to with their dv8000 series notebooks) althought they would have to replace the motherboard with one that has an improved component on it. How do you sue a company or force them to extend the warranty for a replacement that is made with a better component?

Laptop Gateway mx8711


Gateway laptop is really ****.
I bought Gateway MX8711 in March 2007, after 6 months i use it...the hard disk failed.
Gateway replaced a new Hitachi hard disk for me but not more than 8 months and it failed again.
Gateway told me that i have no more warranty because the repair warranty is only 90 days.
I bought this laptop and use it not more than 2 years, the hard disk was failed twice.
Usually Hard disk manufacturer provided 3 years warranty for the hard disk. The manufacturer year of the hard disk is May 2007....they should able to help because the har disk not more than a year being used...but they don't. This is really bad customer service and not fair to the buyer.
I will not buy any Gateway products anymore....i swear.
