Moen uses a cartridge on their faucets. You have to remove the handle. You will find the stem and a small U shaped retainer. Pull the retainer out and pull the cargridge straight up. Sometimes the cartridge is in there pretty tight and you have to pull hard. Once you do this, take the cartridge to your local hardware store. Replace it with the one you have because they have 2 different one. Install it back in the same order it was removed. Hope this helps and good luck.

SOURCE: Loose handle on my Moen single handle kitchen faucet

I had a similar problem. After a few weeks the lever began to "tighten up". It began first with the hot water at full flow and progressed over a couple of weeks to full control.

I have a Moen Ascent kitchen faucet. The chrome handle that is attached somehow to the control valve underneath has come loose. How is the handle attached to the valve and what is the remedy?

Moen kitchen faucet handles in this series are held onto the cartridge stem with a set screw. First turn off the water supply to the faucet. You need to move the handle until you can see the small plug button that covers the set screw. This is ~3/4" from the edge of the handle. Remove the plug with a small screwdriver or other levering tool and adjust the handle if needed to get it on the cartridge stem. Then find the appropriate Allen wrench to tighten the screw. (It may be a 3/32" but this isn't always true.) To test if you have it tight, turn on the water and see if the water is easy to turn on and off. Turn off the water and replace the plug button. Then turn the water one last time.

To see a parts diagram for a couple of models of Ascent faucets, see https://www.moen.com/support/Ascent/Ascent_Chrome_onehandle_high_arc_pulldown_kitchen_faucet/S71708 or https://www.moen.com/support/Ascent/Ascent_Classic_stainless_onehandle_high_arc_pullout_kitchen_faucet/S71709CSL .

I hope this helps.

(Do not over-tighten the set screw. This could damage the cartridge or handle.)

Can't remove the collar without damage to finish. on moen 7385

They best way to remove the collar is lube it up I have found that WD-40 works very well but have been also told that OFF the bug spray in the Orange can works as well, after it has set for about 20 min then a strap wrench should be used.

I need to change the 1255 cartridge on a Moen Benton Faucet.

Usually they unscrew. Sometimes if the faucetis in a hardwater zone the mineral deposits build up and make getting the dome off very hard. Use a strap wrench to get a little more grip, this will prevent damage to the finish and allow you to twist harder.

Throw a cloth over the cover to prevent scratching the finish and grab it with a large pair of channel locks and unscrew it.

Sometimes the valve sticks to the handle, try spraying a little vinegar or delimer and let it sit a moment; then wiggle it loose.

Just purchased the home and the handle on the moen 4551 cp is loose. The handle actually falls off the fixture. There is a plastic grommet or washer that is broken. How do I replace this plastic grommet...

You can find the parts diagram here: http://www.moen.com/monticello/chrome-two-handle-low-arc-bathroom-faucet/_/R-CONSUMER%3A4551 . The washer kit is part number 97274. The lever and the hub and elbow that the handle connects to depend on the finish and whether you need the hot or cold side replaced. Levers: 97557 Chrome 97558 Pol. Brass, hub and elbow: Cold 100552 Chrome, 100552P Pol. Brass; Hot 100553 Chrome, 100553P Pol. Brass.

You may be able to find the washer at a local hardware store (like Ace or Tru-Value). Alternatively, call Moen or visit the Moen site. 1-800-BUY-MOEN or http://www.moen.com/replacement-parts/product?product=IMGLIB:CA84437BN to order replacement parts.

You'll have to pay for the washer kit. However, if the hub and elbow or the lever are damaged, call Moen and see if they will replace it under warranty.

I hope this helps.

The handle seems to be loose because there is a lot of play in the handle befor the stem ingages . Is this normal in the handle

If it's the one I'm thinking of, remove cap in center, and remove Philips screw, and pull handle off. If you have the hex shaped piece still on the stem, look at underside for an Allen key, set screw and tighten it, and put handle back on.

My handle is loose but I cannot find a tool that will fit the set screw. What is it, what size. Blade screw, Phillips Screw, Hex, torx, what? Moen T2442 single handle shower diverter.

It would be an allen wrench. Any typical multi sized wrench should have the proper sized allen wrench.

The holes can often become filled with grime so be sure to seat the wrench properly to prevent stripping.

I hate to say this but maybe the inside of the allen screw has been rounded out by a previous worker. You can drill the screw out and replace the handle with a new one. NOTE: Moen replacement parts are not cheap!
