Hi Paul,

I got your issue, If you want to log i nto 192.168.1.1 using a wireless computer , make sure that the computer is online wirelessly then try to open the page using http://192.168.1.1. If still its not opening the page then follow these steps,

1. Click on start--> Go to all Programs--> Accosories--> select command prompt

2. You will get a black window, which is the command prompt and you will find a small cusor blinking there you type in "ipconfig" (without cotes) and then hit enter.

3. Check what is the IP address/ IP v4 ipaddress , which must be in the range 192.168.1.x

4. Then in the next line type "ping 192.168.1.1" (without cotes) then it will give you reply 4 times and then with the ping statistics Packets send=4, Received =4, lost =0.

5. Then type in the next line "start iexplore 192.168.1.1" then you will get linksys router setup page opened.

Thanks in advance!
Regards,
Prema.

    Hi,

Did you got 4 replies when you did the 4step along with ping statistics as ,

    Then follow these steps,

If its checked , please uncheck it and click ok

    4. Finally click on the Advanced tab in the Internet options and click on Reset and click on ok.

    5. Now try to typehttp://192.168.1.1, it will bring up the page.

I need the Network security key to add my lapptop to the router.

First, let's log on to the router.
  1. Open your internet browser and type http://192.168.1.1 in the address bar. This is the default IP address of the browser.
  2. In the login box that appears type 'admin' (without quotes) in both fields. 'admin' is the default username and password.
Write down the SSID
  1. In the Wireless > Basic Wireless Settings menu you will see the Service Set Identifier or SSID. The SSID differentiates one wireless network from another. It is the 'network name'. Write it down, or copy paste it to a text file. You will need it later. You can first set your own SSID if you like.
In the Linksys WRT54G router you will find the wireless security options under Wireless > Wireless Security. This page allows you to set wireless encryption options.
'WRT54G opensources.png
here you will find you wireless key. this can only be done by a machine connected directly by network wire. make sure you are connected first. wireless is unable to connect unless it is directly connected.

I want to connect a Scientific-Atlanta WebSTAR 2000 series Cable Modem to a Linksys Wireless-G WRT54G wireless router but the linksys doesnt detect the modem and the computer wont let the setup program for...

Most Cable Internet Service Providers (ISPs) use Media Access Control (MAC) Address authentication to establish Internet connection for end-users. MAC address is a unique identifier assigned to the network adapter/s of the computer.
To set up your Linksys router to work with a Cable ISP, you have to enable the MAC Clone feature of the router. MAC Cloning is a procedure which enables a router to copy the MAC address of the computer that's registered with the ISP.
To setup a Linksys router with Cable connection you need to perform four steps using the computer that's been registered with the ISP:
i. Verifying Internet Connection
ii. Connecting Devices Together
iii. Checking the Router's LEDs
iv. Configuring a Linksys Router for a Cable Internet Connection

First!
Do you have a connection in your modem?
if you do, you need to set up the linksys router in DHCP internet set up.
To have access to the linksys you need to go to:
http://192.168.1.1
The password it's admin
and the username in blank (no password)
change the internet setup to DHCP

Make sure you don't have the Same address for 192.168.1.1 or you modem cause if you do you'll need to change the ip address on the linksys router...

Need to redo wireless setup betw linksys & westell

You will need to assign a different ip address to the Westell modem - I am assuming that both the router & modem are using the same ip address 192.168.1.1? If that is the case, then assign 192.168.1.2 to the modem.

Linking wrt54g with actiontec m1424wr

You need to check the ip address of your actiontec router, the default ip address of linksys router is 192.168.1.1, they should not be the same or else you will not able to connect the router to the internet.

To access the router web configuration
http://linksys.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/linksys.cfg/php/enduser/std_adp.php?p_faqid=3676&p_sid=fvzPHEYi&p_lva=3687#

Let me also give you the site on how to add the linksys router to another existing router.

The linksys has 4 LAN port and 1 "Internet" port on the back - we ONLY use the LAN ports NEVER the Internet port - because your existing router is connected to the Internet - your linksys is connected to the LAN

looks like the new laptop has been assigned the same ip address as your old latop so it wont allow u access...renew the ip address, assign ur old lap top a new one or just reboot the router so it will issue u with a new ip address.
