This is one of many problems with this fridge. 3 neighbors also having various problems with same model.
This time alarm came on at 0400 and fridge thawed out. Fans inside blowing warm air. Orange high temp light on...duh.
Called Viking in Mississippi and they offered no help but service numbers in my area. I told them I live in Seattle and it is too early for that...no help.
I am not impressed with this Viking fridge at all. Retail $6,700.00...horrible product for that kind of money.
I read manual...weak with no help at all for this problem in troubleshooting.
I want to know honestly is this fridge line a poor product or do I have a unit that just seems to have a lot of problems.
Phew...I am very frustrated, give me a Maytag or GE, something reliable.
I am not sure if I have the same model, but the VIKING fridge that I purchased in Chicago is a stainless steel bottom freezer design that is horrible. I paid alot for it and it looks great on the outside - like a pretty girl that has nothing to say.....The alarm goes off constantly and tonight the freezer wasn't working! This thing is not even 5 years old and my GE fridge in the basement that I use to store drinks for the pool and things that I don't want to spoil is probably 40 years old (I got it from my parents and has NEVER been a problem). What is up VIKING? Where are your engineers??
Not sure if you had this resolved, but if 3 of your neighbours have the same issue, then rather than the unit being at fault maybe you should have the voltage in the street checked.
If you have a low voltage, not sure exactly but in the 110V area, then the compressor will not start and unit will thus defrost. The fact that you are getting the alarm at 4am would indicate that problem is in te evening as it has to be at 15 or above for over 2 hrs before the alarm sounds

I have this same unit, and it is a piece of junk, viking DOES not stand behind thier product , thier customer service is horrible, and thier warranty is aweful. I called and I can only use thier reccommended service repair that starts at $149.00 per hour, even though they will not cover any repairs, they will not sell parts to outside repair person!!!!! Stupid!!!!!!! I HATE VIKING!
I have a similar problem with a Viking stainless steel fridge bought in Chicago (can't remember how much I paid but it was lot)! This thing is absolutely annoying - like a pretty girl that has nothing to say. BTW my GE fridge that I got from my parents (I use it in the basement for extra drinks etc for the pool) has never caused any problems and it is probably 40 years old......this one is not even 5 years old and the alarm constantly goes off - like tonight - freezer shut off - good thing I noticed before I went to bed because I'd have melted ice cubes and ice cream on my new hardwood floor in the morning. Thank goodness I don't have much meat stored in there, I just don't trust it. I keep everything in my reliable GE!
P.S. Will never buy Viking again and suggest you don't either.
What a piece of junk, this is the second time I have had Viking, it's useless, kitchen aid works better. This one year old 7K side by side has meleted everythign inside of it. I will NEVER purcahse anythign Viking again! EVER!
Oh no, I did a quick google to see if I was the only one with the gorgeous Viking product bottom freezer (costs loads of money) and I'm not. It's the second night in a row that we've been awakened by the alarm going off. Though the cooling temperatures feel adequate. I also experienced the same lazy customer service. They aren't trained to troubeshoot just to spit out a phone number to a local service agent who will no doubt charge me $300 bucks just to show up and another who knows what to fix it. This sucks. I could probably find a way to disengage the alarm - but if it could actually tell me about a temperature issue in the future, I may not want to do that. This sucks. Can anyone tell me how they've managed this issue? Thanks!
My Viking side-by-side refrigerator is also acting up. The freezer is thawing everything out and will not get cold enough to freeze my food. The temperature alarm went off a couple of weeks ago. I reset the temperature to "max cold" according to my manual and it was fine. Now, two weeks later, it will not get cold enough to freeze no matter what I do and all my food is thawing out. I called a service technician and they can't be here until tomorrow. My appliance is 3.5 years old and there is a 6 year warranty on the following Sealed Refrigeration System Components: Compressor, Evaporator, Condensor, Connecting Tubing, and Dryer/Strainer. Does anyone know if the freezer part that may be responsible for not keeping my freezer cold enough is under my 6 year warranty?
