Question about Refrigerators

1 Answer

We have a GE Profile Model #PSC23NSTA SS refrigerator problem. The ice maker works great making ice, so we have been reaching in the freezer for ice. The external door dispenser dispenses water, but no ice (crushed or whole) comes out. When "crushed" or "cubed" is selected and the lever is depressed (cup pushed in), the white flap inside the dispenser moves open, but no other noise is made and no ice comes out. Any suggestions? Thank you.

Thanks for your reply. The two links you sent are for the display board and also for the crusher motor. I'm not sure how to find out if the motor screw is getting power, other than the ice maker is having no problem making ice. The ice bucket is full, so we simply open the door and get our ice. The problem is that the external dispenser isn't sending any ice out the front. The white door inside the external dispenser opens as it should, but no ice is sent through the door. Any suggestion on how I can check if the "motor to the screw in the ice maker is getting power when the button is pushed"? Is the "motor to the screw in the ice maker" the part that would send the ice out the door? Thanks.

Hi,
You will need to check if the motor to the screw in the ice maker is getting power when the button is pushed in...

Could be this...

    Okay,....

The crusher motor is the motor that drive the screw to expel the ice...does both....

To check it for power you will need an electrical meter...pull the ice tray, remove the back wall of the freezer behind the tray and then pull the wires going to the motor... then connect the meter and push the button to see if your getting power to the motor...

This will tell you if it is the motor or not....if your getting power and the motor does not run then it is bad...if no power there then it is probably the board...

I have a GE Profile pfss6pkx. The ice maker has stopped making ice and makes a clicking sound. Do I need a new ice maker or is there something I should try first?

Hello Dave;

My name is Peter. I am a retired field service refrigeration technician.

1.) Press the test button while hold the bottom freeze light switch in. The light switch is in the front top part of the freezer. Observe what happens.

2.) Your ice maker will not work if unless you reach temperature. look in the back of your freezer wall. Is there frost or ice build up?

3.) Do you have ice on the bottom of your freezer section? Then you have a frozen drain, ice built up and can not reach desired temperature.

4.0 You have a non repairable ice maker. Sometime these flex types become jammed with a ice cube in the mold. Check this out.

5.) Your ice maker has a sensor. This may be bad, but I do not think this is the problem.

Get back to me on what you find from the above.

GE Profile PSS26PSTA SS freezer problem

Forget the warranty - it is only for the compressor and that is usually five years. Did you check for freezer temp - wet cubes indicates too warm up there. Water dispenser lines may be clogged.

If low temps you may have low refrigerant or a defrost mechanism not working - if not working there should be ice buildup on line entering the evaporator in back of compartment.

OK, Have a look (if you can) and see if one of the water jets might be broken, or if there might be a defect in the tray. I can't help any further i'm afraid.

The ice maker usually hangs on the wall with three screws. two at the top and one at the bottom. Just loosen these screws and the ice maker will lift off the bracket and you can then reach the wiring harness to unplug it.

Check to see if there is any obstruction (object of any kind) in the ice cube mold area. If nothing found, you will have to replace the icemaker, as individual repair parts are not available.

I have a GE Profile Stainless Steel refrigerator; the Model number is PFS22SISBSS. The ice maker stopped working.

The refrigerator has a duel water valve, one for the ice-maker and one for the water dispenser (if equipped). The valve that the ice-maker relies on may be bad, or it could be the ice-maker itself.
Another thing that could cause it would be the temperatures in the freezer. The ice-maker will not call for water until it reaches under 15 degrees. In addition, check the water tube behind the ice-maker to make sure it is not frozen, blocking more water from entering. The water does not go to the ice-maker or thru the filter unless the ice-maker turns on the water valve.
