Question about Sony Grand WEGA KDF-50WE655 50" Rear Projection HDTV

1 Answer

Comes on and off every minute or so. I have replaced the bulb three months ago with "Electrified XL-2100 / A1606034B", and it worked fine so far. Now I am seeing the above said symptoms (comes on and off by itself every minute or so). Do you think replacing the bulb again will help? Also, when replaced the bulb three months ago, I noticed the plastic around the bulb deformed because of overheat and melting. The situation does not seem to have deteriorated since then. My TV is about 5 years old. Is this normal? Thank you. V

Hello
Use XL-2100 OR XL-2100U BULB with this set. Both are 100Watts bulb, and are original replacement. OK.

Hi,

Lamp Access door for Sony KF50WE610 is below the screen on the front of the TV. This page shows location of Lamp access door and DIY bulb change instructions for most SONY LCD TVs:

Look at Optical Engine Faults before buying a lamp or bulb. Replacement bulb will not repair these problems.

Picture cycles off and on

I replaced a burned out xl-2000u bulb with an after-market Philips bulb on my Sony KF60XBR800. After a fews weeks, I started experiencing intermittent black-outs with the "stand by" red light appearing. After a couple weeks it became intolerable. I then purchased an OEM Sony lamp and the problem has been gone for months. I read somewhere that the Sony circuitry monitors either resistance or watts and shuts the thing down for board protection. It was said that it is so sensitive it can can use only the Sony bulb. I'm a believer. If the bulb is going bad, i wouldn't doubt the protection circuit can kick in.

XL-2100U lamp cycles on and off

Hi

I recently had a similar problem after replacing my lamp the set would work for 22 mins then go into standby for 30 sec then come back on, then repeats, I decided to experiment with the lamp housing, I removed the new lamp, unscrewed the top of the lamp that holds the actual bulb then switched out the main housing (bottom part) with the original housing, that seemingly has corrected my problem, you may want to try if the replacement lamp did not come from Sony...good luck
