That is part of the start-up sequence. This is normal things to occur on the display during start-up, but the screen going dead is unable to be isolated with being able to eliminate where the exact failures are coming from.
1) Transformer may be bad 2) Board 3) One of the safety switches that is telling the heater to shut off.
The warranty is 2 years on the heater and there is an extended warranty if you purchased a full set (3 pieces of equipment) at the time of the installation.
Sorry that we are unable to assist with more detailed diagnosis and instruction on repair, but this could be anything from a simple safety switch to an electrical component.

Hello
Its either a bad switch or a very loose connection.

Try striping the wires back and reconnecting to the switch.

If it's a hot surface ignition system I'd guess it has a bad ignitor from your clues. If however it's a spark ignition system I'd guess it has a bad ignition control.

I've seen this in several GM cars. The switch has gotten wet. I have used this trick several time but the switch needs to be replaced. Try flipping the switch very rapidly from up to down several times and it will clean the contacts and you can get your window up.
