Terrible time for a camera to fail, sorry. It sounds like the dock might be bad, and failing to recharge the new battery. The old battery may have been at the end of it's life, also.
Other problems can cause these symptoms, which can be power or lens related, but are probably power, in your case.
You need to measure the voltage out of your dock, and verify if it's working, that's the first thing to do. If it isn't, get another one off Ebay, and it might solve your problem.
You should also ensure the battery contacts inside the camera are not oxidized, and clean. Use a qtip and alcohol, or a pencil eraser- whatever you can to clean it.

If nothing helps, take it into a camera repair shop and get an estimate- sometimes it's cheaper to buy a new one, especially after-Christmas sales, etc.
