Question about Dryers
The belt is most likely broken. To get the top off,it may just lift up,or pull slightly forward and lift,or it may be bolted on with most likely a maximum of 4 bolts. When you lif the top, there are basically only 2 wheels. One is for the motor which turns the dryer(usually a small gear),the other end wraps around the dryer section(much larger). You will need your make and model to order a new belt.Depending on how large of a populated area you live in,someone should have one like a used appliance center. If they do not have 1 in stock, your best bet would be to call the manufacturer and order one directly from them.If the appliance center offers to order one do not bother with them. They will most likely add charges which will most likely make it cost more than getting it yourself. If they claim the can get one at a discounted price,it still most likely will not be worth your time and $ as you can have one sent directly to your house. When you have the top open, spin the smaller wheel to check the rotation. There may be someresistance due to the motor, but it still should have smoothness. If it is difficult to turn, you may want to contact the manufacturer for better info but I have never had much difficulty spinning it.When you install the belt, make sure the 2 wheels are well aligned.Just spin by hand a few times and check for wobbling. This should be a simple repair. One time someone GAVE me a dryer for the same reason,I opened the top and saw no belt.I paid about $8 for a new belt, used it for about a year and ended up selling it for $125.Yahoo!If you have any questions or need more help, just comment here and I will get an autolink to your post and reply ASAP.Good luck,Greg
