You want your paddle to have some play in it otherwise they are too difficult to remove for cleaning. Unless your paddle is not kneading any more or slipping off the spindle I wouldn't worry about it yet.

I forgot to add that the baking pan leaks whatever fluid is used in the breadmaking and the kneading paddle is loose and actually wobbly.

    Hi rozd,
Normally I would suggest replacing your pan and paddle but I have looked online at my usual sources for parts and all I could find was the paddle. Given that your pan is leaking and how old your machine is I suggest replacing the machine completely. There are great deals on ebay for new and almost new machines. By the time you paid what the parts sellers require for pans and paddles you could just buy a good machine off ebay for about the same $.
I sell there all the time. I have a machine up for auction now that is really cute and lightweight and makes a 1.5 loaf. If you shop ebay and want to look at it let me know and I'll email you the auction # or if you just type in Oster Bread machine in the search bar it will probably pop up. It's the one that is pictured on my screen porch with the snowy background and the little statue next to it.

Sunbeam repair manual

Hi...Before trying to take it apart, you should verify that the paddle in the bread pan is moving or not. Take the pan out of the machine and try to turn the paddle by hand. It should turn free and smooth with little effort. If you can't turn it by hand then the bearing is frozen and the bread pan needs to be replaced. (no fix for it).

If the paddle moves freely, then the belt in the bottom of the unit is loose or broken. Reply to this thread and we'll help you out!

My breadmaker will not mix

This could be either a broken drive belt, or a stuck paddle. First see if the paddle turns freely. If it does, then it is probably the belt that came off or snapped.

Loose paddle

Pop the top ... remove the front ... carefully remove the belt ... take the drumout - you are correct, the paddles are held onwith screws - tighten them.

Breadmaker paddle rotor falls out, letting liquid

Looks like you need a new bread pan. Try looking on Ebay. They are expensive. I just bought a new one at walmart instead.

Excessive wear between paddle and panshaft?

You can drill and tap the paddle, where it faces the flat on the shaft, and install a small setscrew. Something like a 10-32. Make sure you use a nylok screw or use a thread locking compound (available @ auto parts stores) to prevent the screw from working loose and getting into your bread! Just tighten the screw enough for a snug fit so that it can be removed for cleaning.
