Question about Audio Players & Recorders

I have a 3 band

Dear Audio expert(s)at FixYa, I have a 3 band Radio It's a PR -D3l It's sold and branded as a digitor by sangean and I bought mine through ****-Smith Electronics in Australia a few years ago. It has FM 87.5-108 MhZ, MW 522 -1710kHz and LW 144-279 kHz. I've been away for a short trip, returned to find the detail readout has changed. It's now displaying a changed FM range now 76.0 up to 108mH, BUT it processes no signal below about 100MhZ. Similarly the LW option doesn't appear at all and worst of all the MW range now cuts of at 1620, it no longer offers frequencies above this. Trying to find a web site for this model (not listed on www.singeing.com). This appears to be a software problem in the tuning chip as it works ok on those frequencies it now chooses to receive, but with those weird changes neither ordered nor wanted. Please assist. Thank you Ginko

I have already disconnected both sources of power, but it does not reset to manufacturer's specifications. So what else might I try?

Have tried removing all sources of power to "reset" to original specifications. No luck.

Use a paper clip or something similar to press the little reset button that should be located on the bottom of the radio. This will reset the microporcessor and get the radio working again.

The Digitor is the same as the PR-D3L from Sangean and the manual can be found here: http://www.sangean.nl/English/Products/pict.php?type=manual&file=dr_PR-D3_manual.pdf

Hi mark774

First trick is to power it right down, remove batteries, to get a reset

If it is still faulty, then it will need some service work done. It may be also a synthesiser fault, but either way, **** Smith do have a repair service. They are probably the best to provide service on the product. I would call them tomorrow first and enquire about repairs.

No sound.

Read the manual. The radio may have been set to some defaults, although the time was not correct. When you started setting the time, it is possible that you should have run through the whole setup. For example some radios have different ranges for the FM bands: there is a Japanese band that starts at 76 MHZ, and ends at 108 MHz; there is the standard FM band from 88 MHz to 108 MHz; and a school band (I can't remember its range).
For AM the gap between neighboring positions may be set at 9 kHz or 10 kHz depending on the location (region or continent).
I suggest you get the manual and see if there is an initial setup procedure, then follow it.

Sangean PR-D3L - How do I change between 12 and 24

Archer, I have read the entire PR-3DL manual and there appears no mention of a 12/24 hr setting, unlike certain other Sangean radios. The instructions for setting the alarm do not mention 'a.m.' or 'p.m.' .

Apparently, the clock is a 24:XX:XX display only.

Sangean ATS-803A - no audio

If its not a micro-p glitch, sounds like the radio was subject to a spike or surge wile plugged into the AC adapter. If the "power" light stays on all the time, thats what happened. Believe me, I was Sangean America's tech from 1990-1995.
Rob
The fix is to replace a transistor, or fet in the main pwr supply. (Close to where the adaptor plugs in.)
I wish I could give more details, but its been 14 long, long years.

Digital Radio Digitor by Sangean PR-D3L The LCD display has slowly been failing and is now 95%failed. Is there a spare part or other magical solution available

I have fixed the display on a Sangean PR-D3L that had faded to less than 30%. It was a bit involved and required pulling the radio apart and desoldering a metal sheild off the back of the display board to reveal the "zebra strip" connector for the display. I used a bit of heat and pressure on the connector strip where it contacts the circuit board - presto 100% display. Don't know how long it will last tho'.
