Question about PC Laptops

1 Answer

HP dv6700 I have a HP dv6700 and I cannot get the disk drive to stay closed. If you close it, it will stay closed for about 5 seconds. After that you hear a funny noise and the drive opens on its own. Other than that, to my knowledge (which isn't much) everything else is fine.

This is a problem with the relay switch in the drive that opens the slide. Unfortunately, you will have to replace the drive in order to fix the problem.

Cd rom drive door will not stay closed. i close it and then seconds later its back open again.

There's a little piece of plastic or metal that's connected to a sprin which clicks into place when you close the dvd drive and keeps it closed. Either the spring or the plastics is stuck or broken. They're very easy to replace and used ones don't cost much

My pavillion dv6700 starts up then goes black

Hi, Sorry to hear about this. I presume you can't log in in "Safe mode" (pressing the key "F8" while booting) and then to a system restore (available under Accessories -> System tools -> System restore) Nor you have the Windows Recovery Console available to you , nor an original Microsoft Windows CD/DVD (not a HP one) to use to try to do a soft recovery. If I'm correct on the points above, then sadly at this stage it seems you have a fundamental issue with your machine. I recommend that you take out the recovery disks you got with your machine. Inserting the main recovery disk and then rebooting the PC will launch a recovery console by HP. This will make a last attempt to fix your PC or, if all fails, return your PC to the "brand new state". Bare in mind that going to the full restore option will delete ALL the files currently your PC.. hence leaving it, just as the day your bough it. If you don;t have a back up of all your files, you'll need either: Create a boot disk that allows you to connect an external hard drive to copy all your data or ask a local mate or PC shop to extract your drive and copy teh data before you do a full recovery.
Once again, sorry to hear about your issue but I'm sure worst case, you'll succeed at getting your machine working again (even if it means a factory reset).

Dvd door keeps opening. Won't load dvd. Won't stay closed.Compaq laptop. Bought at Wal Mart this summer. Problem started a few weeks ago. Aaaaargh.

Check and make sure a disk is not stuck in the disk drive. If a disk is not stuck try closing the door and hold the door close, shut down the computer. Start the computer and hold the the door while the computer reboots. Hope this fixes it. djmax1966@yahoo.com..

Dvd drive will not start up or play dics

You should try it with a different disk. It sounds like that one you are using is scratched or the disk was not closed correctly when it was burned.

My Hp Pavilion dv6700 laptop will not start properly. I was in the process of installing a program, and the screen forze. I restarted the computer by holding down the power button, and I tried to reinstall...

Hi there.
Seeing as the laptop is only 5 months old it is still covered by the manufacturers warranty, the clicking sound you can hear is the hard drive failing, the hard drive is hardware and IS covered by the warranty.
Send it back to HP it won't cost you anything to have it repaired.

Good luck and thanks for using Fixya!!!

Cd/dvd drive won't stay shut

I have the dv9000z. If I do NOT push the DVD drive tray all the way in until it CLICKS shut, then it OPENS again after 1-2 seconds. This is normal. I have found that most times when I close the DVD tray drive, I am not pushing it in far enough, because the top of the DVD tray is rubbing against the laptop's case. If I just press down VERY SLIGHTLY and push the DVD tray in, the tray will fully close and CLICK shut. This works for me. Good luck.
