At the EnGenius Tech support page for this router, there is a firmware update available.
To download the firmware update, click on the "Resources" tab further down on the page and find the link to "ESR-1221 EXT Firmware v1.07.04"
On page 17 of the user manual, it explains how to install a firmware update.
This will most likely resolve the issue that you are experiencing.
If it does not, verify that both machines are set to use DHCP (AKA "automatic") to acquire an IP address.
Also try disabling IPv6 on both computers to see if that is causing the issue.

Hi! I think you have an IP conflict on your laptops. Do this: goto control panel and open the network section and put a fixed IP address for both the laptops, lats say: LapTop1: IP: 192.168.0.10 LapTop2: IP: 192.168.0.20
And put a DNS number in the same section where you put the IP numbers. The DNS number is the IP number of your router. WARNING! your router IP address must be in the same region as your laptops. Lats say Router IP: 192.168.0.1 than your DNS address on your laptops are 192.168.0.1.
Check in the router of some security restriction like how many users can be connected through WiFi connection, check for firewall enabled or disabled, if enabled try disable it and try to connect now.
I hope this solution will help to solve your problem.

Firefox cant find server

Because your disconnected from the Internet. Or using a proxy and configurations are faulty. Check your internet connection make sure your online and try again. Reboot the computer and try again. Most likely it is your internet connection issue if any.
If this is the case just go and power it all off wait about 10 seconds or so and power on again make sure before you power off the modems or routers or wireless connect that you completely power down your computer or computers first. Start the Internet by powering it all back on again. Then once power on is established, then turn on your computers let everything settle in for about 3-4 minutes depending on your connection speed.
That should work itself out. John

Cisco access point

Hi,
How to configure wireless access point using a laptop
Wireless technology makes connecting to the Internet possible from anywhere within the range of the network. Unfortunately, not all Internet-capable devices have wireless technology, and many still require an Ethernet port connection. If you have a laptop with a wireless card and an Internet connection, you can make the laptop a wireless access point and share that connection with other devices, whether your laptop runs a Windows or OSX operating system. Windows computers allow other devices to access the wireless network via a physical connection to the laptop, while OSX computers allow AirPort equipped devices to connect as well, creating a second wireless bubble for the network.

Instruction:
WINDOWS
1 Turn on the laptop and the device with which you will share the connection. Ensure the laptop's wireless card is turned on and you have an Internet connection.

2 Connect an Ethernet cord to the port on the laptop, and the other end to the receiving device. You need to make the connection first, or you will not be able to access the sharing options for the connection.

3 Open the list of network connections on the computer. In Windows 7 and Vista, access this list by typing "Network Connections" into the Start menu search bar and pressing "Enter." In Windows XP, click on "Network Connections" in the Network and Sharing Center section of the Control Panel.

4 Right click on the wireless connection and select "Properties," then navigate to the Sharing tab. This tab will not appear unless both devices are connected.

5 Check the box marked "Allow other network users to connect through this computer's Internet connection." Click "OK" to save the changes.
OSX
1 Click on the Apple menu and select "System Preferences." Click the "Sharing" option, then choose "Internet Sharing."

2 Select the Airport and wireless network in the "Share your connection from:" drop-down menu.

3
Select an output format for the connection in the "To computers using:" drop-down menu. Choose "Ethernet" for a physical connection or "AirPort" for wireless broadcasting.

4
Turn on the device you wish to receive the connection. Connect the devices with an Ethernet cable, or turn on the receiving device's AirPort card and connect wirelessly.

My laptop is connected to an internet connection but is doesn't connect to any websites?. and it says 'the internet connection was reset'.. what should i do?

Hello,

Try using a different browser on your laptop. If you are able to view sites using a different browser then you have narrowed the problem down to that browser.

If not, then try resetting your network devices. Turn off the modem and router and laptop. After 10 seconds, plug in the modem then after 30 seconds plug in the router then after another 30 seconds turn on the laptop. Are you still having trouble?

If so, try checking your internet browser settings. Make sure cookies is enabled and no sites are being blocked. You could also try lowering your security settings in the browser.

If you are still having trouble, try disabling any firewalls and anti virus programs you have running.

Double check you are actually able to communicate past your gateway by pinging some websites from DOS. If you are running windows go to Start and type CMD or Command in the run box. When the DOS window opens, do C:\ping www.google.com or try www.msn.com or www.fixya.com. If you get replies back then you know packets are reaching outside your local network.

Regards,
G33k

I turn on net book plug in dongle that connects then i press internet connection it comes on for about ten seconds the goes off

What is going off - the internet or the netbook itself? When you say internet connection, do you mean the wifi toggle switch or the windows internet settings pane?

First, check and see if there are any buttons that get stuck (power button or wifi toggle button). Second, try using a software switch to turn on your internet connection.

My wireless network connection status in connected speed is11.0 and my signal strength is good but I cannot connect to the internet

Are you running any Internet Security software such as Norton? Also make sure your wireless router is actually connected to the Internet, just because your laptop is connected to the router doesn't mean the router is connected to the internet.

If you can, plug your laptop in to the router via an ethernet cable to make sure Internet access is working, alternatively if you have another computer connected to the router check the internet access on that one.

Also try doing a soft reset on the router, just disconnect from the power for about 30 seconds, reconnect, wait one minute then try again.

Make sure the router is set up to receive an assigned address, probably DHCP. Unplug the modem for about 30 seconds with the router and computer off. Power on the modem. When it comes ready, power on the router. When it comes ready, the laptop.

Pavilion wont stay connected to internet through linksys router

without looking at laptops myself, if it's not a problem where somehow a connection got loose or built up dust and debris, then it could be a hardware issue where the pavilion wifi isn't as good as the vaio's. The same thing happens to me on my hp pavilion dv2000.

Asuming you are knowledgable about hooking up broadband i will guess that you know for a fact the its a good connection on the broadband routers side and there is actuall internet access and the problem is with your laptop.

If so then make sure you have the right installs.

get into your start menu at the bottom left> hover over settings>click on network connections and wait for the window to open. Right click on " LOCAL AREA CONNECTION" and select properties.

The little box should open showing a scrollable menu and say " Local area connection Properties" at the top. Make sure in the list of installed Items, you have at least the TCP/IP internet protocal installed and add version 6.

Also you can try cycling the power to your internet broadband router. Hook up the laptop, turn it on and log in, If you have a router that you are using to branch off your broadband to several computers, then unplug, wait 30 seconds and polug back in and it should register. If you are plugging directly into the Broadband router, cycle the power on it the same way.

Also make sure you are plugged into the right port on the router:)

Hope this helps.
