Question about Pioneer DV-220V-K DVD Player

2 Answers

I have a Pioneer DV 401V K dvd player. The problem is when I load a DVD the tray slides in and the disc starts spinning and the LED readout says "Loading". It goes on like this for a few minutes and then displays "No disc" when obviously there is. I have already tried reset / clear multiple times holding STOP while turning the unit on. There are many many complaints about this problem from different Pioneer DVD players but I haven't been able to find the answer. I would appreciate it if anyone could help. As nice as this player is (was) it isn't worth paying anyone to fix it. However, I would like to fix it and continue to use it. I am comfortable with any level of troubleshooting, disassembly, soldering, etc. and have a DMM for testing. Thanks.

This may seem silly, but have you run a "lens cleaning" disk through the machine? If you haven't tried this I would suggest it. They're available at places like Walmart, Best Buy, etc. DVD players are more sensitive to optical difficulties because the size of the beam is much smaller than on a CD. I would also try a Audio CD. Not MP3 but store bought. If the CD works and DVD doesn't, it is usually dust.
If the CD does not work, check to see if it is slipping in the drive mechanism with the result that it is not turning fast enough to get a good read. Last but not least the bearings in the spin motor are beginning to lack lubricant. When manufactured the oil is impregnated into the pores of the brass bearings at each end of the motor shaft. I have had success had drilling a TINY hole in the moter end next to the bearing and spraying in "TV Tuner or control cleaner and lubricant aerosol". I DO NOT recommending doing this for any equipment that is under factory warranty. This problem initially manifests itself on older units that have been on for several hours. So I doubt it is happening with your player. Hope this helps,
Mark

Well the laser pickup assembly is the problem it is not reading the disc, the only thing I can suggest is take it apart and expose the laser pickup lens, take a Q-Tip and dip it in rubbing alcohol and carefully clean the plastic lens in a circular motion, let it dry for several minutes before testing.

DVD player automatically stops and turns itself off, how do I prevent this?

Warning: Laser inside! If you want to open it up and troubleshoot, make sure you don't point toward your eyes.
Check the nylon laser carriage to see if it slides laser from center to outside line. If it sticks, it's probably shutting down from not properly reading a disk.

Pioneer dv-2010 dvd player makes a whirring noise

That's because the lazer on the tray is trying to read the disc. Does this happen to other discs? When the lazer can't read the file, the drive spins up the disc to help it read it.

Pioneer DVD 717 - Not Loading Discs Whenever I load a disc, the player spins the disc for a moment before slowing down. to a stop. It repeats this around four times in succession before it then opens...

Hi msaslloyd ,

This could be because of a damaged lens , where the dvd player tries to recognize the disc but is unable to do so and then either sends the disc back i.e. the tray opens up or the message no disc loaded is displayed.

I suggest you to :-

  1. Clean the lens with a lens cleaner available in the market and load any disc in the player to check if it's working fine.
  2. Get the lens replaced from the market and the problem should be solved.
Hope this helps ..:)

Can not play the disc, It prompt be to enter a region. What should i do.? thanks

It is a problem with older models only. You need to update the firmware. The latest firmware version is YKD9CO9A . So if I were you I would download YKD9CO9A for that dvd player. Get it from Pioneer Latin America site.
Burn the update on a disc. Load it in the player
After the update is completed, remove the disc from the tray. Hold down the Enter button on the remote until the DVD tray closes. See if that makes it region free.

My dvd player keep on loading but it end up no

from direct experience, the problem is that the disk does not start spinning by itself - it will if you have the top off and give it a spin to start it ... I don't know what the ultimate solution is though.
