Question about Canon PowerShot A480 Digital Camera

1 Answer

A friend bought a Canon A480 on my recommendation but she can't get the date/time to stay. She has to reset it every time she uses the camera. The user guide says to replace the date/time battery but this shouldn't be the problem in a new camera. Any ideas?

If it's a new camera, and it is doing this, it is defective. Your friend might consider returning it for replacement. But before she does, one quick thing that she can check is to reseat the little clock battery that controls the date/time. The battery could well have gone bad. It's located in a little slot labeled CR1220 right next to the AA batteries in the battery compartment. Just use a fingernail to pry open this little compartment and remove and reinsert the little button battery. If that doesn't fix it, and if returning the camera is not an option, next consider purchasing a replacement CR1220 battery from your local drug store. It should only cost about $3.

She removed, cleaned and reinserted the date/time battery (after finding out that it had one!) and it seems to have fixed the problem. She did this before I received your message but I just wanted to let you and others know that this worked and it should definitely be tried first before buying a new battery or returning the camera. Thanks!

I am unable to determine how to get my camera to put the date on the pictures. Cannon Power Shot A480. Pam

Press the FUNC/SET button. Use cursor-up/down to select the recording size (probably L, unless you've changed it). Use cursor-left/right to select the date stamp icon (clock on a picture). Press the MENU button. Use cursor-left/right to select [Date] or [Date&Time] and press FUNC/SET.

It's all in the "Inserting the Date and Time" section of the manual (page 56 in my copy). If you need a manual, you can download one at

I want to switch off the date stamp in my pictures taken with A480, please.

Press Menu, scroll down to "Date stamp" and across to select off, date or date and time, then press menu again. The date stamp only works in Postcard mode, so if you set a different picture resolution, that will also stop the pictures being date stamped.
