I have an Eveready fluorescent lantern #9209. I can't figure out how to put the batteries in. I get the back compartment opened but am completely flummoxed after that. Does anyone have the instructions? Thanks

On the bottom is an indention where the lamp attachs to the handle portion. The latch opens when you push the button toward the front of the lamp. Once it is opened, then slide the lamp off, revealing the battery compartment - remove the batteries and replace with new ones

If it is the yellow floating lantern you have to remove the black plastic stub on the underside of the reflector using needlenose pliers to wiggle and slightly pull until it releases and the bulb will come out.

Unscrew the head assembly. In the back of the assembly is a small plastic nut. Unscrew this and the bulb should fall out into your hand.

Drop a couple of drops of WD 40 on the bulb retaining ring. Let site overnight and in the morning it will easily unscrew. Note: be sure you use only a couple of drops as you don't want to get it on the reflective lense

How to fix the switch on eveready lantern flashlight

The switch in the lantern is a press fit switch so you will destroy it when you remove it. Remove the lense and retainer ring. Remove the battery. With a pair of pliers, preferably channel lock water pump pliers crush the switch into small piece and discard. Trail Tech makes the exact water resistant switch model 040-ls-b and you can get it at Amazon or on eBay . The switch runs around $6.25 + $4.00 shipping

I've owned this flashlight for years. In the comment above, ignore the instruction to remove the rubber casing around the lamp area. Simply grasp the whole front of the lamp piece (including the rubber cover), and twist in a counter-clockwise direction to remove. Then squeeze together the two black tabs and pull the battery compartment out to replace the batteries.
