What info can be gleaned from the serial number for a tappan gas furnace? SN - FGA010507062.

To the consumer, not much. For the manufacturer, it tells them when and where it was made, as well as some of the vital statistics about the furnace.

TAPPAN gas range model 30-3991-00/03 oven won't work.

the button your holding is the switch that tells the board that the consumer whats to bake.so if holding the switch causes that message to work[or oven to heat] and letting go of that button ,then no work .its that button ,but its all part of the board .just that part of its funktion is broken.,if it was lets say your oven ignitor or oven gas safty valve ,the board/oven control[the one with the button]would continue to try after you have selected bake [pushed button]or would give error code.hope that helps you. God bless you , tom

The pilot light for the oven went out.

Relighting Your Furnace's Pilot Light

furnace1.jpg - Turn off the gas at the main valve at your utility box - Wait five to ten minutes for gas fumes to waft away - Get a long match—yes, a fireplace match, not a standard match - Set the gas valve on your furnace to "pilot" - Press the red button as you hold the match to the pilot valve - Keep pressing the red button for 30-60 seconds so the pilot can heat the thermocouple. Release the button and see if the pilot remains lit - If pilot goes out, wait five to ten minutes and repeat the process - Once the pilot stays lit, turn the main gas valve back on - If the pilot light continues to go out, call a technician, who may need to adjust or replace your thermocouple or adjust your pilot

Tappan gas range oven makes a whisling sound

the gas pressure regulator can whistle sometimes. turn up the radio. (just kidding) I have had some new units that did this and replaced the regulator and it still did it! I was working as factory authorized service tech and my factory techline said it was a gas pressure thing. I was thinking it was the valve rather than regulator but tech guys said no. I don't know about that response but thats what I got.
