The green screw is ground. If you have 3 prong grounded outlets discard it. Otherwise fasten it to ground (water pipe)

How to attached a gfci plug to a 10/3 cord

I would expect that one of the screws on the plug would be green.

Normally, the white wire (neutral) connects to the silver/white screw, the black wire (hot) the the brass/copper/black screw, and the ground wire (green) to the green screw. Certain GFCI receptacles do have a second silver/white screw to provide downstream GFCI protection to additional outlets.

Can you tell me how to replace the cord from a 3 to a 4 wire plug?

You have a block on dryer with three screws in it, the new 4 wire has black (hot), red (hot), white (neutral), green (ground) wires. Black goes to left screw, red to right screw, green and white to center screw. or white to center and green to screw holding cover that hides block.

Replace electric cord

First,follow manufacturers instructions if possible.

If you need a 4-wire cord you will attach the black wire to one of the gold or brass colored screws on the dryer hookup and the red wire to the other brass or gold screw. The white wire will connect to the silver screw and the green wire will connect to the green screw or to a screw that is connected to the frame of the dryer.

If you need a 3 wire cord you will place the two outside wires (if looking at the cord if laying flat), one on each brass or gold screw.Next there should be a metal strip or jumper that you will place to connect the green screw connected to the frame of the dryer and the silver or white screw together. Then place the white, or center wire, on the silver or white screw.

Instructions that came with the dryer should show you how to do this.

Make sure the cord is unplugged before unhooking the hold cord or installing the new one.

If you see something different that what i describe or need anything else just write.

If the dryer has a 4 wire cord and you need a 3 wire cord, you should have a jumper, or little metal strip, that came with the dryer. You will connect this jumper between the green ground screw that attaches to the frame and the screw where you white neutral wire lands on the terminal block.

If the dryer is 4 wire and you need it four wire, you simply connect the white to the neutral screw, the black to one of your hot screws, the red to your other hot screw and you green to the green screw connected to your frame. If there is a piece of metal, "jumper" connected from the neutral or white screw and the green screw in the frame you will need to remove this.

Write back if you need clarification.

3 prong to 4 prong.

The following link will explain this for you:

As stated in the link, the WHITE wire from the power cord should be connected to the other WHITE wire at the terminal block and NOT grounded to the equipment frame. The neutral wires are to be connected at the terminal block only. The extra white wire you mention, may be a jumper wire that originally jumpered the neutral to the equipment frame from the 3-wire configuration. This wire may be reconnected to the frame with the GREEN (ground) wire from the power cord. I hope this helps you. If you still have questions, please let me know.

Hooking up the four prong cord to the dryer

this is the rule of thumb, white always goes on the middle terminal ,the 2 outside terminal wires it does not matter which side they are on,if you can see the red and black wire on the terminal block then match them up,the green wire gets mounted to the cabinet, you should already have a green wire to the cabinet so remove the screw and put both wires there and your done, let me know how you do-mike
