Have had three game discs destroyed by a deep scratching all the way around the disc...scratch runs the full 360 degree circumference. happens randomly. what is causing this and how can i fix it?

Could be caused by dirt or dust in the actual disc reader assembly for the 360. you can purchase a DVD cleaner disc for cheap from numerous retailers like best buy and walmart. or online.
Here is one I found for cheap on with free shipping:
If this doesnt work then there may be more serious hardware issues with the dvd drive, you can get it replaced at an authorized repair shop or you can send it in to microsoft.
Hope this helps.

Okay i have three xbox 360 games with three rings around the discs and many more scracthes how can i fix them a home for free

Check to see if there are any scratches or laser burn marks on the discs. Scratches or marks on discs will render game discs unplayable or will freeze the game and will often show a message stating "Disc Read Error" or something to that effect. Best remedy for starters, is to clean the discs and make sure there are no scratches or marks left on the play-side of the discs. A common problem that XBOX owners are reporting is; if the console is moved during play, a whirring noise is heard and then when the disc is removed, very visible laser burn rings are found on the disc.

Laser burn, looks like complete or partial circular scratches around your disc. This occurs to discs when the games console has been moved whilst playing. Discs are then impaired by a ring of laser burn, which is a circular scratch into the disc. Some home remedies may help with very light scratches on some discs but a professional disc repair service is normally required to fix laser burn scratches or damage to XBOX discs.

For further help on XBOX disc repairs or to get XBOX discs repaired back to "As Good As New Condition", visit:

Check the "More Info" & "FAQ" Sections for further details on disc repairs and related matters.

If this laser burn scenario is consistently happening to your game discs especially if the console has not been moved or bumped against while the discs is in play, the games console itself may require repair. You should contact Microsoft for assessment and guidelines.

Hope this Helps!!

Ps2 mess up

if your console has recently fell or has had equivalent damage recently the track in which the disk tray glides in/out could be misaligned causing the laser disk reader to make contact with your games/cds causing the scratches you are seeing you can take it apart relatively simply I have fixed several like that back in the day took about 45 min. Otherwise you can have it fixed but I would suggest purchasing a used or reconditioned console if the repair is around or more than a replacement. hope this helps

I play a new game for two or three days then it gets scarched

Are you moving the console while playing? If so, the game disc can get damaged easily.

If not, you will need to contact Microsoft about this problem. It sounds like the reader is damaging the disc. Unlike other systems (PS3, Wii) disc readers, the xbox does not have rubber pads around the reader which prevent scratching and damaging discs.

XBOX ruins disk by scratching the disc

if you run a search in google you should be able to find guides on how to stop this happening, i did have them but have since formatted. you basically put three bits of foam in seperate places and it stops the 360 drive from damaging game disks. this was common in the very first sets of designs and samsung drives in particualr.

Yeah the xbox 360 is very capable of doing that and is known for doing such thing. Make sure to place your xbox is on a stable place because just a small movement or anything like that will cause your xbox to scratch any game that is in the console.

Scratched disk

hi, this is a common problem with all video games consoles that take cd and the same for music cds.
Most people throw them out when they get scratced and start jumping or in your case wont load the game.
The good news is you can buy a cd polishing kit which polishes the scratches out of the disk.

How it works is you place the cd into a like similar to a cd box but it has three sanding wheels then when you put the disk in you then turn a small handle and the three polishing pads spin round and polish the scratches out of the cd getting the disk to work again.

The problem is finding some where that sells them i know Maplin stock them and sells them but if you have trouble finding anywhere that sells them then the best thing to do is type in in your browser "cd scratch remover" then this will list a load of sites that sell this product.
Its not expensive to buy and its well worth getting one as you can use it loads of times so if in the future you have more problems with scratches then its worth getting one.

Hope this is the help you was looking for i know they work as i use one myself for my ps2 and music cds that get scratched.

Let me know how you get on or if you have any questions.

On any cd the bottom part that the laser reads doesnt have the information and the data on it it is burned into the top part so as you look at a cd and where the writing is on top of the cd if this is scratched and you can see through the disk then it cant be repaired but if its the bottom part that the laser reads from then removing the scratches will solve your problem.
The scratches cause the laser to miss that bit of data thats under the scratch so polishing these out will be the same as having a new cd.
