My acer pc is running on XP and acer only support vista so I can't download another audio device. I seem to have "lost" mine somehow and can get no sound at all. Have tried the above but nothing.

I'm a bit puzzled here, did you downgrade to XP?
Suggest that if you cannot get a compatible driver for the audio chip, that you purchase a sound card that will run under XP and install that

Yes, sometimes a seperate sound card is better anyway, I suggest an audigy card but your choice. You can even elect to get an external sound card

My acer aspire 5315 has. New hdd installed. I've put windows xp on from disk. Xp is up and running bt I can do nothing else because of missing drivers which won't let me get on Internet to down load

You obviously got access to the internet somehow in order to post this question. Unless you can get to the ACER website and download the drivers, you are not going to get satisfaction. Here is the link to the ACER driver support site. Enter your model and choose your OS. Download the drivers to a USB stick and transfer them to your PC.

I have a Gateway MX6400 laptop. After I upgraded to Windows 7 from XP I lost the sound. Drivers are up-to-date and connfirmed. When I click on the speaker in the lower right corner I get, "No...

Look at the driver properties. I suspect a generic Microsoft driver has been installed and that driver doesn't work correctly. (Right click on the audio device from Device Manager and select Properties. Then check the Drivers tab. Look for the line with Driver Provider.)

I can't find a MX6400 listed on Gateway's driver site, http://www.gateway.com/gw/en/US/content/drivers-downloads . There are the MX6410 and MX6420 listed. Both of these have a Conexant audio driver for XP and Vista. The Vista driver may work under Windows 7. (Make sure to correctly select the 32-bit or 64-bit depending on your OS version.) Download the driver and try to manually install it. If that doesn't work, try a Conexant audio driver from another laptop brand that is for the correct version of Windows 7. (Just Google Conexant audio driver Windows 7.)

I hope this helps. If you have a problem, please let me know what your Device manager claims the manufacturer is on the HD audio device and the driver manufacturer listed in the Properties. Also add a comment if you see any error messages when trying to install a new audio driver.

Try installing the latest audio driver -
Download the drivers from the Acer WEB site. Make sure youselect the model of your laptop and the XP or Vista version of the drivers youthat require and it matches the Windows version that is installed on yourlaptop. Use this link to get to the Acer support: -

I recently went from Windows Vista to Windows XP, and I somehow lost all traces of my sound device.

Vista I admit is not as user friendly as XP.
Download the apropriate drivers from HP. If your 2150 came with Vista you may find that there is no XP driver support!
Hope this helps.

Lost audio device after install XP SP3

here is the link of driver available for vista

ftp://ftp.work.acer-euro.com/notebook/aspire_4720/vista/Drivers/AUDIO_Audio%20Driver_v6.0.1.5413_Vista.zip

but if you have driver for windows XP then you can install it only after installing a fix from microsoft as high definition audio devices are not detected and unable to install the driver;
so download the fix first and installed the driver;here is the link

downloading the drivers may not work, as the hardware ay be built for vista.

1) key in your computer name and device name such as Acer Aspire m6110 audio driver or video driver on the google, fine out which to match yours, there some driver look like similar you need test each one see what matched.
2) you may try to use Acer aspire similar PC driver disk, possible to find the useful driver in it if you have some those disks, due to most Acer product use same device chips so the driver can compatible 100%
