The clicking could be the start relay. If the start relay is bad, the compressor will not start and you will hear a clicking noise in 2-5 minute intervals. The clicking noise is the overload cutting the compressor off when it overheats from trying to start with a bad start relay. To find out if this is bad first unplug the refrigerator. Here is a pic of the start relay Refrigerator clicking Remove the lower cover from your refrigerator. Then take the cover off that is on the side of the compressor, you will see wires going to this. Now you should be able to see the start relay plugged on to the side of the compressor and unplug it. Now the best way to tell if it's bad is to shake it. If it rattles, it's bad and needs to be replaced. If not, most of the time it's ok. But rather than saying the compressors bad, you might want to replace it anyways because it does not cost much. A quick check on the compressor is to remove the start relay. You will see 3 pins connect a multi meter set for continuity. You should have continuity between any of the 3 pins. If you do not the compressor is bad. Also check from each pin to a good ground on the cabinet. There should be no continuity if there is the compressor is bad. If you replace it and it doesn't work then the compressor is bad and you'll need to call a repairman. (Note that compressors are very costly and are normally not worth fixing). You can enter your model # at www.appliancehelponline.com for diagrams and illustrations or to purchase a start relay. A 3 in 1 start relay will also work fine. All parts come with installation instructions. Not all models are available.

It doesn't cool, and in freezer side its collecting water, and also water dripping in the refrigirator .

If this is happening while compressor is running normally , first check temperature of condenser coils (black tubing)while running. If hot to touch, compressor is ok.(Good news)If not hot ,it's shot,or your defrost heater stuck on.(not likely)

If compessor not coming on at all it could be a control problem.eg thermostat ,or stuck defrost timer.

If compessor wants to come on or you hear clicking ,suspect start relay or start capacitor.

hope this helps

Fridge temperature not correct and freezer items are all defrosting. This also happened a year ago, except it was just the freezer and the fridge freezer is only 3 years old

I have a Kenmore side-by-side frig which I was told was mfg by Whirpool: Model 106.51264104 Mfg April 2003 It stopped cooling on both sides. A repr tech replaced "RELAY CAPASITOR ASSY." I now get freezer...

Hi,

Okay if not the coils inside the freezer section behind the panel that covers the coils is where the ice is located? I don't know of any other coils inside the freezer? Did you confirm that compressor itself is running? Not just the fan and clarify again the location of the ice.If you have frost on the freezer coil, you probably have a defrost problem. Your freezer should go into a defrost cycle about twice a day. When this happens the compressor and fans shut off and a defrost heater in the freezer coil will turn on heating away the ice. This usually last 10 - 20 minutes. If the defrost coil doesn't defrost it will become a solid block of ice and this will inturn block the air from blowing into your refrigerator compartment. There are several things that can go wrong with the defrost cycle such as the defrost timer, defrost heater, or the defrost termination thermostat. After defrosting the coils with a hair dryer, they have not frozen up again in several days. I did notice that the air diffuser in the refrigerator side does not seem to open by itself. It is not broken physically. If I open the luevers manually, eventually they will close and not reopen.

OR

Relays will burn out for the same reason a light buld burns out. So many hours of life and they go. Also a power surge from a storm can cause them to go.
If the compressor is cold try a relay. If you hear the compressor click on and then click off after 3-5 seconds try a relay.

Thank You

Kenmore not freezing nor cooling. humming noise

DONT SAY THAT COMPRESSORS BAD YET !!!! TECHCUMSE AND COPELAND ALL HAVE THE SAME COMPONENTS FOR STARTING THE COMPRESSOR. ALL COMPRESSORS HAVE EITHER A "PIN-TYPE PLUG-IN START RELAY, OR CAPACITOR START ASSIST RELAY" TO GET THE COMPESSOR TURNING.( FROST-FREE REFRIGERATORS ALMOST ALWAYS HAVE A START-CAPACITOR, RELAY, AND T-STAT COMBO ON ALL MAKES. THE IN LINE BI-METAL TYPE T-STAT THAT PREVENTS THE COMPRESSOR FRON OVER HEATING... THEY CAN GO WEAK. THIS IS THE "CLICKING SOUND YOU ARE HEARING !!! CALL A REPUTABLE DEALER THAT IS "FACTORY CERTIFIED" FOR YOUR MAKE AND MODEL AND GET A "FLAT-RATE" DIAGNOSTIC CHECK PERFORMED. NEVER LET A REPAIRMAN TAKE DEFECTIVE PARTS OUT OF YOUR HOUSE FOR ANY REASON. BY LAW THEY HAVE TO LET YOU KEEP THEM UNLESS THEY ARE REPLACING THEM COVERED UNDER WARRANTY FOR EXCHANGE. UNFORTUNATELY HUNDREDS OF CONSUMERS ARE "BILKED" BY THE " DOI-IT-ALL REPAIR-MAN. MOST MANUFACTURES ONLY HAVE 1 YEAR ON COMPRESSORS FOR REFRIGERATORS 5-10 YEARS ON A/C COMP. DONT BE AFFRAID TO WATCH AND ASK QUESTIONS TO REPAIRMEN YOU LET "INTO YOUR HOME".
