Question about Dell Computers & Internet

1 Answer

My husbands computer has been sending out bogus e-mails to everyone of his contacts for weeks now, on a daily basis. He has not initiated this and we are not sure how to stop it. He is currently using AOL.

We have tried several times to download this free software, but after it loads to appx 85% it just shuts down or won't go any further.

OK, so here's the update. He already has Norton on his computer so we ran the updates for it. When downloading the latest updates, the same thing happened as when we tried to run the free software you originally recommended. It starts to download, then it gets to a point where it stops and he gets an error message due to not being connected to the internet. When we try to reconnect the cycle starts again, and seems that whatever is happening during the download is kicking us offline.

It is extremely frustrating and he is starting to anger people that keep getting these destructive e-mails from him repeatedly. I suggested we delete all of his contacts but I am not sure if it is too late for this.

    Please advise.

Thank you & happy new year.

You have a virus and someone is tracking your activity on the Internet as well, download and install this program and run a full scan of the computer to remove the malicious software that is doing this. Here is a link to the free software.

Your computer hard drive is corrupted, you will need to buy a copy of NORTON INTERNET SECURITY and run a virus/malware scan with that software, The infection in your system is blocking you from downloading the Malware removal tool, the infection is just to deep in the system. If you can't clear this problem you will need to Format your Hard Drive and reinstall the operating system to erase the the infection and give a clean slate, you do this with the recovery disk for your system.

Here is a link to the NORTON INTERNET SECURITY PROGRAM at Obnce you have the software follow the installation instructions exactly, it will ask if you want to scan the system before installing the Norton program, select yes.

    Go to this link:

The Virus you have is called a Trojan and it is blocking any attempt by you to remove it (blocks the download or installation of any anti Virus software), completely re-loading the operating system with the systems recovery disk set will erase the Virus infection. I would also suggest you contact the email support for your make of computer and ask there advice as well, it is free. When you contact the support staff give them as much information about what you have done as possible, the staff has access to software engineers that can maybe find a work around to remove this Virus without re-formating your Hard Drive, I am not a software engineer. Good Luck and Happy New Year.

Here is another free Anti Virus program that might do the trick and clean the computer of the infection

Here are the basic instructions for using this program to clean up the problem.

    1. Download the AntiVir Free Version.
    2. Double click the exe file to run it.
    3. Select "Automatic Installation" (unless you are an experienced user and wish to do a "Manual Installation").
    4. Follow the instructions given to you.
    5. When installation has completed, the program will open and you can start a scan of your system. Follow the instructions given to remove any flagged files.

My email is corrupted and sending out emails to everyone on contact list. Besides changing password is there anything else I should do?

If its a mail server, call your network admin. If its Outlook, Thunderbird or something PC based, I'd scan for the malware with Superantispyware and/or Malwarebytes. Further, I'd check your account settings and yes, change your password on a regular basis.

How to access facebook socail network?

Accessing is the easy part: > Log in by using your email address (Hotmail/Gmail/yahoo..) and the actual password

In general you wouldn't use these to log in to any account part from yours but as funny it is, this is the way with Facebook. They will send you emails - a lot - unless you go to your account setting and make changes. You can downsize the mails next zilch, nil, by choosing what kind of remainders you want to see. > These options you'll find from "account settings"

WARNING: Facebook and it's games can be addictive.! ***********, father, husband, wife, school-, study- and work friends can follow and track your thoughts and likings on daily basis! You might bump into friends you thought you would never see again!

Try start up in Safe Mode press F8. Choose Safe Mode, when at the choice window, to select either Safe Mode Desktop, OR, System Restore, choose System Restore and choose a time before you had the "Problem" and got the Virus, and follow instructions. This should get you back to the time prior to opening the attachment and unleashing the virus. If this doesn't work. please let me know.

One thing you can start doing is to also send the email to yourself. (Yes, you can do that.) After you send it, you can sign out of your account and then sign back in a few minutes later. Your email should be there very quickly.

As to why your husband is not receiving his sooner is difficult to say. If he is using Yahoo too, it should not take long at all. It should use the same servers.

You can always contact Yahoo customer support. They are more knowledgable of their system. If you follow the Help link at the bottom of the Home page, eventually you will get a Contact Us link on one of the pages.

Thanks for using Fixya.
