My monitor only shows the wallpaper with no applications or any start menu, or anything. I've tried pressing all the keybord buttons and the mouse but it still just shows the wallpaper and nothing else.

Hi,

best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.

When i switch my laptop on, it shows the desktop wallpaper, but nothing else: No start button, no icons, nothing! and it doesn't respond to Right clicking or ctrl alt delete....i even tried putting a disc...

Try to re-boot the computer into Safe Mode (continually Press F8 while you boot up.

Then select safe mode from the list of options (use arrow keys)

If you can boot into safe mode, then try to see why the computer will not boot, perhaps you have recently installed a new software program, update, etc.

Good Luck

I Turn on my computer and it boots up normally until I get to my main screen. It shows my wallpaper but nothing else. My start menu and everything is not there. I tried to boot in safemode and the F8 key...

During the boot process you will see on the screen to press a certain key to enter setup
Press and hold that key during the boot up process to enter BIOS you can load failsafe defaults or load optimized defaults ,press escape then press f10 to save to cmos to restart
or you might try
During the boot process tap the f8 button three times this will boot into safe mode where the only things
working will be your mouse and keyboard enabling you to attempt to repair your computer

once you have your computer running
try uninstalling a few unnecessary programs then click start run type cmd then type chkdsk/r/f which will scan for and attempt to recover bad sectors and automatically fix any corrupt files on your hard drive then defragment your hard drive

hope this helps good luck

My windows display only wallpaper

What happens when you press the windows key at the bottom left of your keyboard?

What happens when you move your mouse to the bottom of the screeen?

If nothing, can you get to the task manager? Press Cttl-Alt-Delete and choose task manager

Under process close explorer.exe
Then under the Applications tab click new task
type in explorer.exe

When booting into Windows press the F8 key and select restore to last known good configuration.

If that does not fix it... then you need to renboot using your Windows XP Installation CD and select repair system

If this has been of help to you please remember to vote kindly.
