Question about Brother XL-3510 Mechanical Sewing Machine

1 Answer

Thread is knoting at the bottom and bursting. The machine is only sewing with elastic thread. When I try sewing with straight stitch or zig zag it will knot at the bottom and burst.

Maybe you need to adjust your tension and double check your threading. I have never (in 50 years) sewed with elastic thread but I think a call to Singer customer service at 1-800-4singer may be in order.

I am at a loss for any other suggestions, other than the elastic thread is too stretchy. Are you threading your bobbin with it, if so, use regular thread in the bobbin instead of elastic thread. I know for invisble thread (kind of like fishing line) you have to use regular thread. Otherwise, call Singer. good luck

I'm sewing a zig zag stitch and the underside is a perfect zig zag and the upper side looks like it should be the underside....how can I fix this so that the beautiful zig zag is on the top?

FIRST > Make sure your bobbin case is threaded correctly...

For normal straight sewing the top tension should be around 5, for zigzag or satin stitch you need to lower your upper thread tension a bit. Try it at 4, if it still pulls your bottom thread to the top try it at 3 etc...

you are doing it wrong, thread the machine top and bottom as normal, shirring elastic on your lap, select a small zig zag or pattern, sew and as you sew pull the shirring elastic taught, mif you wind the shirring elastic on the bobbin you will mess the tensions up.

Zig Zag Stitch not working

THis problem occurred as I was sewing on Neoprene. I was using Gutterman all-purpose thread and a size 80 needle. Tried switching to a size 70, then to size 90. Still unable to zig zag. After inserting a test sample of cotton, the zig zag worked perfectly, so I knew it was not a mecahnical problem. I switched needles again. This time to size 90 for stretch fabric. Voila! Problem solved.

Zig zag stitches are not holding

When ever a machine is jamming up the bobbin thread, it is a result of your top tension. It is either set to low (under 4), or the thread has come out of the take-up lever. Check your threading, fromt he spool pin, down to 2 and up to 3. Three is the take up lever. From the take-up lever down to 4. Set the thread behind the thread guide and thread the needle form front to back. Low quailtu thread 9dual duty or all purpose) can also create this problem.

thanks,

Suddenly zig zag stitch not working?

Because it is almost a straight stitch but the needle continues to move in a zig zag fashion is reason to believe it is in a long stitch. By changing the number of stitches per inch there will be a very noticeable looking zig zag stitch.
