Question about Whirlpool Calypso GVW9959K Top Load Washer

Open Question

My washing machine eats/schreads my towels, throw rugs, sweaters - any kind of fine knits! It's gotten really bad over time. My machine is 6 years old and I paid over 9-hundred dollars for it. When I called customer service, I was told they could do nothing because of the amount of time that passed. I tell you - Whirlpool has LOST A CUSTOMER FOR LIFE!

It is either a timer issue or a motor issue. I know, that you knew. But if you have a motor with like circuitry and size, you can try that or to put it into the spin cycle and see if it is a mechanical obstruction or with a voltmeter see if the timer is working.

SOURCE: How do you get the dryer to actually work?

That button with the 1/2 on it and then the time dial works and it sounds as if it is washing your clothes, but it is actually drying the clothes but heats up water in order to do it. It is kind of insane actually but it does work and that is the way to do it.

Well I'm going to do my best to fix your washer. First unplug the washer and turn off the water. If you have a shop vac take the drain hose out of the drain, and through the drain hose vacuum the water out of your washer. If you don't have a shop vac go to the auto parts store and buy a pair of radiator hose clamps . Then facing the washer locate the two screws. They will either be in the front or rear of the control panel and back them out far as you can. Once you have done that pull the control panel slightly forward, and tilt it back on the hinges. Now unplug the lid switch wire but don't forget to plug it back when your done. Next locate at the rear of the washer body the two gold clips then push forward, and take careful note of how they fit. Then pop them out with a screw driver tilt the washer body forward at 45 degree angel and walk forward with the body, and set it down. Now you will see the white pump and motor assembly. You should see two clips holding the pump to the motor pop them off, and pull the pump off the motor shaft. Now if you fell the need to remove the pump use the radiator hose clamp. take them and clamp the hose coming from the tub but its not necessary for the repair. Next disconnect the wiring harness from the motor (note the position of the harness for reassembly). Remove the two 5/16 inch screws from the motor clamps and pop the clamps off. Once that is complete, remove the motor put the new coupling on the motor and transmission shaft. I use a socket and a hammer

L have finished knitting my sweater now i want to add a pocket at side seams how do i do it

Hi Marcel,
Un fortunately this is integrated in the actual knitting process. However, if you knit the pocket separately, you can then attach it to the garment by sewing it in using the wool you used for the original garment.

Hope this is useful.
Kind regards
David

I am looking for a 4 ply sweater pattern raglan sleeve

Check at hobby stores that sell yarn, ie Hobby Lobby, Michaels, etc. There are usually a lot of booklets or pamphlets with patterns. Even some yarn brands include patterns with their skeins.

Severe vibration/noise during spin cycle. What could the problem be and how do I fix it?

if the machine was run severely out of balance (rugs) you'll need to get a look in the back up near the top with a good flashlight , this involves unhooking power and hoses and turning it around , you may have broken a drum suspension link , this device (three) keeps the drum from contacting the shell , if its true and its allowed to run this way you will brake off water hoses on bottom of drum and water will runout on floor

Hi. I have a Bond, too. Even if you get a formula to recalculate the numbers of stitches per inch/cm I would suggest that you do a gauge swatch with the Bond before you start knitting the actual sweater. There is a terrific group of fellow Bond machine enthusiasts and experts here: https://groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/incrediblesweatermachineclub/info

They have free patterns, tips, and advice. They have some manuals posted, too. :)

How much water do I use when using a front loader say 5 items of clothes with 3 large towels and two sweater

many front loader washing machines don't have different water level options since they cycle the water differently than the "tub-o-soap" upright washers. The best answer I can give, if there are different fill settings, is to put the laundry in the machine and see how full it looks. Err on the side of overfilling, since the towels will soak up a lot of the water, and unless the sweaters are delicate or inclined to stretch out badly, I'd opt for an extra spin cycle to get rid of the excess water soaked up by the towels and sweaters.

Washer not fully draining, even with extra drain/spin cycle...

Hi easterbunch;
Im sorry to have to tell you but that is one of the inherant faults of the duet line of machines. It is a safety guard that the machine sences as a unevenly distributed load, and prevents the unit from spinning up to full rpm's The next time you need to do a small load throw a bath towel or two in with it and you wonrt have any problems with it spinning up to full speed.
Hope this helps :-)
