Will not feed from lower tray. upper feeder works fine

Normally that sort of job will need a service centre. If you find the problem, it is doubtful you can get parts. It is a $100 printer, you buy a new on and carry on using the cartridges you have.

Remove the paper trays and the cartridges, turn it over and start removing screws.

There should be a sound of the roller trying to pull the paper. If there id no sound, that means the paper pickup mechanism is not working. Major repair as it may involve electronics, paper feed sensor and even firmware.

C 204 Tray 2 feeder up/down abnormality.Check the M9 paper feed tray 2 lift up motor connector for proper connection,the PS15 paper feed tray 2 upper limit sensor actuator,the motor coupling.

Need more information. Does the doc elevator lift the paper to the pick rollers? Check the plastic lever that is attached to the upper feeder cover. Make sure the upper cover is closed properly Verify that the dark colored sensor is clean in the feeding tray

That means whatever you are trying to print is set to feed from the MP tray or Multipurpose Tray. The tray that folds out that is used to feed thicker paper or envelopes in. Just check your print setup screen and tell it to feed from the lower tray or tray1. If that is what you were trying to do.

Hello sir; When you feed originals in portrait, the paper tray have to set by portrait direction too.

Depends which way is vertical but I think the feed rollers on the upper tray are slipping perhaps dirty. (The paper momentarily stops feeding past the scan sensor)

Found the answer.
Problem:
Wide blank area on Lead Edge, or Misregistration possibly accompanied by noise. The noise may be described as a clicking, buzzing noise while making copies. The noise may stop for short periods while making copies. Cause:
The registration Sol. pawl is not capturing the clutch to keep it from turning. This is caused by the Registration Sol. return spring being out of position, or when installing the Main Drive Assy., the pawl is "trapped" in the actuated position. Solution: Free the Spring, by rotating it. Ensure that the Pawl moves freely in and out, and engages with the clutch.

Solution,

 take out the tray 

if you look on the bottom of the machine there is a metal plate.

in the middle of the plate there is a bump

turn the tray upside down and look at the bottom, there is a small hole with a plastic lever. it is probably broken.

when the tray is slid into position the lever hits the bump and releases the lifting mechanism.
