Question about Cobra 148 GTL 120-Channels Base CB Radio

Cobra 148 GTL steady tone though speaker

I have the same problem with my Cobra 148 GTL, When the radio is on there is a steady tone, similar to the sound of morse code is the speaker. The volume control has no effect on the tone. You can still hear other stations through the speaker, but the tone overwhelms it. It will also transmit this tone mixed with your own audio. I don't know if this is related but if I adjust the mic gain control the tone will change pitch. Have tried different working mic and shorting the RX/TX mic pins to earth one at a time and the tone is still there. So I don't belive its the mic. Can you help?

The problem is in the audio output chip usually bolted to the inner chassis. Sometimes the chip developes a hairline crack, replacement recommended.

you would probably want at least a 4watt continuous power supply or better. do not use as switching power supply.

No modulation in AAM only mode. Needing a schematic.

if the transmitter produces power output with modulation on SSB but NOT ON AM then the AM Pass Regulator is defective, more times than not.
